Hi JD,I had an SLNB on my left leg. Some pain upon injection and very low pain afterward. I was home the same day. Hospitalization was never discussed prior to the procedure. Kust speculating, but perhaps because your husband’s procedure is on his neck might make hospitalization slightly more likley? If you’re concerned bout whether one might might be sufficient, you can always book two nights with the hotel and cancel the second (not sure this works with Priceline, Expedia, etc, but reserving through a Marriott/Hilton/Hyatt directly would enable you to cancel the second night as long as you do it by the next morning prior to check-out time.
Best of luck to your husband.
Regards,
SA

Hi Amy,Sorry for the anxiety this is creating. Absence of knowing for sure creates that with many. Your doc is being prudent and following the next logical step when a growth is considered suspicious. The blue-grey veil is also a feature of a Spitz-Nevis which is benign. I don’t believe that she wants to do it a few days earlier is significant in any way relative or indicative of any dire time sensitive emergency.
i know it’s easier for anyone not currently in your situation to tell you to relax. But the likelihood it is melanoma is small and if needed there is much in the arsenal to battle it than just a few years ago. Try to take it a step at a time and try to keep us posted.
Good luck!
Stan

I would definitely keep the appointment. It’s better to be certain, especially since you have no explanation for the origin of that growth. It probably is some sort of benign lesion, but given your family history and your sun exposure, letting a qualified derm have a peek would in my opimion be very prudent.SA

Great news! Such a great relief to pass through these milestones. My journey started back in 2011 with a similar disease stage as you. SLNB, CLND and if all goes well, will be 10 years NED in October. Best wishes to you and the rest of the MRF crew!Stan

Similar to Celeste (Bubbles), my excision and biopsy were done by Emory. Their derm path team couldn’t make a definitive call, so they sent that little piece of me to a derm path at UCLA. Unlike Bubbles, my sample was not Ivy League material. Anyway, even after it was looked at by that second pathologist they did not definitively come out and say it was melanoma but enough factors leaned in that direction to treat it as such. Probably somewhat common and the extra set of knowledgeable eyes is likely a good thing. Hope all goes well moving forward!
