I saw this report BUT in my case the mole that became my stage IIa melanoma was one I'd had since birth, so no one should be complacent about any moles.

Hi Beth.  I'm relatively new here and don't know very much compared to every one else, but I did have a similar experience in terms of things happening fast.  Had a mole on my shoulder I'd had as long as I could remember.  It started to itch and bleed and I had it removed.  Biopsy showed melanoma so within 2 weeks I had a wide excision and removal of 3 lymph nodes.  Fortunately the lymph nodes were free of cancer.  It happened so quickly I didn't really have time to absorb that I had cancer until the cancer was considered gone.  And now, over a year later, it still seems somewhat unreal, altho anxiety lingers.  Again, my experience is limited.  I'm sure others with more knowledge will chime in soon.  Wishing you all good luck.

Thank you all for the replies.  The lump has gotten smaller so it's probably nothing serious and you've relieved my mind about it being related to the melanoma.  I did get a chance to have a doctor give it a feel and he agreed at this point it's of no concern.  It's so helpful to bring issues here where people understand how any lump, bump, or pimple can feel really scary.  Thanks agin!

I also was on Synthroid for years before melanoma.  I've had very good luck with Synthroid, but have to be certain that the drug or insurance company does not give me the generic version.  Some people get no benefit from the generic.  You might check to be sure you are getting Synthroid.  I felt terrible before Synthroid:  fatigue, muscle aches, night sweats, mood swings, lots of uncomfortable symptoms.  Once my dosage was stabilized and I got on the "real" drug, I've been much better.  I don't take any drugs for melanoma, tho, so my experience may be different from yours.  I just had a WLE and SNLB about a year ago.  I would say if you don't feel better in another week or so, tell your doctor.  Good luck!

So glad that your mom did well.  And thank you for the information that there are ways to clot blood on the surface.  Once again, I'm beginning to be ticked off at the dermatologist who left my husband with so much anxiety.  The doctor could have taken a few extra minutes to address these concerns.  If not for this forum, I'm sure N and I wouldbe stressing like crazy!!  I think I'll lobby for a new dermatologist.  Hope your mom continues to do well.

Wow, so even tho you were not biologically related to your parents, all three of you had melanoma.  So not so unusual for husbands and wives.  Somehow that makes me feel less victimized.  It's just random genetics.  I'm sorry about your own cancer experience but at least it was helpful to your folks when they had to go thru it.  I feel better able to be detached from my situation and be present for my husband now.  You have helped so much, and of course it heps that he's not so shocked and scared today, too.  I hope for the best for you and your family!!

I very much appreciate your response.  Also am very sorry about your father.  It sounds as if he made his own decisions about how to face his skin lesions and ultimate melanoma.  I'm sure that was a source of comfort for him and probably for you, too.  My husband's GP today told him he just needed to tell the surgeon that he could not stop his Coumadin and the surgeon would work around that.  Why the dermatologist didn't advise N of that I don't know.  He sure scared us, perhaps unnessecarily.  We don't have to face the stroke risk at this time.  I'm reassured at your mention of SKs which could be a likely possibility as opposed to jumping on the melanoma train.  Sharing your story has relieved my mind.  Thank you!!

I'm sorry to hear about the tough side effects from your treatments.  I don't know about the melanoma treatments, but I've been on thyroid meds for about 25 years (non related to cancer).  I don't know if you know that some people do not get results from generic synthroid.  Have your doctor keep track of your levels until you're sure its working for you, and best of luck to both of you.
