Jerry had a bad accident last night. He fell off a horse and was dragged. He was airlifted to a hospital in Denver. I just got off the phone with his wife Sue and she told me he is in critical condition. He broke some bones in his face and needs surgery, but he can't have it yet because he is having respitory problems. Please send prayers his way.

This is Jerry's daughter. Dad was out here to visit with us. We live in the Buena Vista area (which is 120 miles from Denver). We are looking for a place where mom, my brother, and me can spend some nights while he is in ICU. It is a two hour drive to get to my house. We would like to be closer to the hospital than that. Any help you could give would be great and PRAY! Thanks, Tanya

People, note the date. I'm "o'k for this year 2011 (as of 9/4)". I posted a small update at the end of this post I just found from last year when the Denver Docs were sure I was dead.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Jerry is tough and I pray for a full recovery. Be careful melanoma warriors…Jane from Maine had multiple injuries from a fall from a horse a few months ago. I guess we try to live life to the fullest! Thinking of Jerry and his family.

I have spoken to sue just a little bit ago. There is a little improvement with jerry, but still not doing well. She said the only thing that they need as of right now is a place to stay. I am currently working on trying to contact friends and family in denver area to find them a place to stay as I live to far away. If anyone in the denver area or close surrounding has the space for 2-3 people or if anyone knows any one living in these areas that would be willing to open up their homes to the family that would be a great help

The hospital offers the Yaffe House, they offer lodging for free but appreciate any donations. I use the same type house when I go Knoxville for treatments.
Jerry is a wonderful person and wish him well.

update on Jerry (dad): he is holding steady. They took him off the vent for 2 hours today and he did great. They will try him off vent for a few hours everyday. He is off BP meds and looking good on that front too. Still sediated for the most part. If he does not regress at all, he is scheduled for some plastic surgery on Wednesday….maybe he will come out looking like Brad Pitt!! LOL
We did get into the Yaffe house (thank you everyone!!!!!). It is a big relief to have a place to rest.
Mom is just now starting to worry about the amount of surgeries that may be in the future and the cost of them…but that is a bridge we will cross later.
helicopter ride $10,000……..1st night in the hospital $15,000….having my daddy back PRICELESS!!!!!!!!
thanks everyone for your encouragment and prayers!!!!

WOW!! This is the first time I've seen these posts. Y'all are all so wonderful. Prayer must have really worked since I'm still here to respond. I'm about to think I should wallpaper my room with the things I should have died from in my life.
I'll probably never be back to where I was, but I'm so much better than the Neurological Intensive Care Unit (NICU) ever expected me to be.
I'll give a little update. My eyesight isn't as sharp as I'm used to, but I can still read (and look at women!). Wife says 'look all I want, just no touching!' Face is a little crooked, nose leans and slants, but still smells (does that sound right?) Hugh lump in throat from Trach causes problems in swallowing, mis-aligned jaws (and lack of grinding teeth) make eating harder. Apparently the nerves from the taste buds were injured and nothing tastes really great anymore (at least now not as bitter as things tasted for the first 8 months). Heck of a way to loose weight. Can I sell a book on how to loose weight? My head is a litte more lumpy, and I look about 10-15 years older than in July 2010I Laura, from Colorado, has lost a fair amount of weight. Says she did it with hard work, didn't want to try it my way. She has been so great to me and my family. All the help and support y'all have provided my family, even it wasn't directly melanoma related has been so special. What an extended family the MPIP/MRF has been!
I still say God has had enough opportunities to take me on to Heaven and hasn't, so he must have more he wants from me here on earth.
