Sorry to hear that Keytruda stopped working. But good that it shrank the tumor first. Hope the surgery is successesful and he has many years with no more tumors.

                  Hi Mike,

                  Welcome to the club.

Oh, Internet…I did that, too. Scared myself silly. It is very easy to panic. I was dx in September. There are lots of people going through this too, at all stages, and good treatments that help many people's tumors shrink or disappear. It is normal to feel stressed by this news. Good luck on the WLE on Monday. You will beat this!

(Sorry, posted too soon before I finished) There are lots of great immunological treatments that can be selected to target your particular tumors's genetic markers.

Glad you liked him and he has a plan!

Sorry about the potential surgery, but if it would ease your symptoms and allow you to go back on Opdivo after you heal, it sounds worthwhile!

Take care and wishing you the best!

Welcome Susan! I am new to this group, too, having just had my WLE done on Thursday. Mine was on the bottom of my foot. I am waiting on staging right now. (this coming week) There seem to be many helpful people in this group, and I'm sure you will find the support you are looking for.

                        Hang in there!

                          Hi Mike,

I've only been reading this board for a week , off and on, but I noticed you were often the one encouraging others. I hope now others will encourage you!

Tell all these symptoms to your new doc… could some be side effects of meds, or processes like arthritis, and not necessarily new disease indications?

I hope you have a great appointment on Monday and get some answers. Hang in there.

Just wanted to wish you the best…the waiting is one of the hardest things, I think. Hope it turns out to be an easy WLE that takes care of it…

Thank Sablyn. That's a good idea…I was already thinking…Dr. Carson has been really great, but if this turns out to be more than in situ, I hope she will be part of a small team of docs to help with this.

Thanks for the good luck wishes.

                                Hi Lisa,

Thanks for the welcome! My doc said that this kind is from genetics (I guess a predisposition for it). This summer I saw a photo on the net of a mole that looked like mine on the bottom of the foot, which is what made me make an appt. Because I'd never been to a dermatologist before (my kids have, but not me), it took until Sept. 10th to get in (new pt appt). The photo was labeled acral lentiginous melanoma. My dermatologist has just said "melanoma" and is trying not to overwhelm me, I think.

This type of melanoma is the most common in darker skinned individuals, African American, Asian, and rare in Caucasions like me, but it can happen in anybody evidently.

                                Take care!

Thanks for the warm welcome, Mike. Yes, the waiting this week for the staging will be hard…I always feel so much better when I KNOW something, even if it's not optimal news, so I can research and prepare.

Yes, I sure look funny hopping around! (up yesterday just to bathroom and kitchen) This morning I can walk on the toes of my left foot with most of my weight on my right foot, so that's a little better.

                                  Thanks again for the welcome!
