Two years ago yesterday I had my biopsy at Mayo Clinic and they told me I had stage 4 melanoma. They also said I would be dead in 6-9 months. Happy to report I am still here and still NED. Had my latest scans on June 8 and my booster of MDX 1106!

Congratulations! Isn't it awesome to prove the doctors wrong! May you continue to do so for many years to come.

Lynn,
I'm so happy for you and hope you continue to defy the odds and remain NED (it's possible!).
When I was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with Stage 4, I actually thanked my Dr that he didn't mention the 6-9 month timeframe. He said those were old stats and that new treatments were keeping people alive much longer – this will be the trend going forward in the years to come. Infact, they suspect the typical lifespan of advanced melanoma patients will double within the next 5 years.
There is always hope!

I think I have read that the survival statistics are at least 10 years old.
Even though there hasn't been much advancement in melanoma care in the last 10 years, I think we are NOW seeing exciting breakthroughs.
I have to believe that many of US are ging to change those statistics. By living.

Rock on my friend – I am ever so excited for you! I went for my 2nd set of scans since starting BRAF/MEK and everything is still shrinking. YEA! Hasn't spread anywhere else and I'm still kicking it to the curb. 6-9 months hmmm – it's been 8+ guess I better pack, cause I think I am going to be EXTREAMLY late for something – oh wait I'm not going ANYWHERE! 🙂 Keep kickin it my friend!

Great news! Celebrate! I have been Stage IV for almost 6 years now…not NED all the time but most of it. Others need to know there are many long term Stage IV survivors out there. And you and I just happen to be treated at the same facility (Moffitt). I spent my day there.

Lynn,
I am so thrilled for you! Not only have you beat the odds, you have also kept on living! Big move and new job!! Keep going girlfriend! Have you thought about sending a note to the Dr at the Mayo Clinic to let them know they were wrong!!!! Might be an idea so they are a bit more up beat when they meet with another patient!
Linda
July 6th will be 5 years stage IV. While I've had way to many recurrances during that time I'm still here and currenly NED!
