        My dad's was a normal skin colored "cyst" on his head.  But his dog would not leave his head alone so FINALLY he went to the derm who biopsied it saying it's a cyst.  came back melanoma!  Had to have 3 surgeries to get clear margins and had a positive lymph nodes.

            I am so sorry!  I lost my dad in January from melanoma.  My thoughts and prayers are for you and your family.

                    my fatehr cancer returned 4 yrs 8mo's later from the original diagnosis.  It can always return and likely will.  I have no idea how to get them to realize how important it is to be so vigilant regarding melanoma.

                            I'm sorry Jill.  I don't know much as I'm new to all this, but giving you a cyber hug!  I know one oncologist we saw said melanoma brain tumors have a tendency to bleed.  But he was also a downer!

                              I know we have to pay for the airfare, hotels, etc.  Which is fine and I know there are some resources out there if needed .  It just took us 3 weeks to get an appointment scheduled for him as MDA would not make one until they had a written contract with dad's insurance.   I'm calling the insurance in teh am to at least try to obtain a prior auth for both CT and MRI of abdomen, chest, neck and brain so maybe we can cut out some insurance tape while there.

                                  We got the acceptance form MDA last week, they wanted insurance acceptance and we got that today!!  yeah!
