Congratulations. It’s scary to think about being stage 1 for 24 years then being stage 4. Makes me think even with stage 1. . even after surgery/removal and given “all clear,” it’s always still there just waiting for an opportunity to come back.

this is a totally "normal" feeling to have.  i'm 7 years out and it gets better with time.

Could different types of cancers be linked with regard to genes?

The flip side:  I have no family history of it etc….but I had many many many horribly bad sunburns as a kid, throughout childhood and adolescence and even young adulthood.  I believe mine was directly caused by sun exposure.

When I was diagnosed stage I few years ago I remember asking these same questions about getting scanned.  I thought I had heard that there’s no evidence that scanning would lead to catching anything any earlier, but it sounds like maybe it would

Same thing happened with mine (on my back) and it had to heal from the inside out. Scar is very pinkish, I would think if melanoma grew back it would be dark colored in a pink scar and would be able to be seen

i think my genes made me more susecptible to getting it from the sun.  i burn instead of tan.  i'm very fair skinned.  i think that genetic makeup made my risk higher from the sun exposure
