Thanks all– making me feel better– I found a mole on my stomach-has been there my whole life-now all of a sudden I think it looks different –but I will be at derm next week for a wider excision- so will just have them look. Some have mentioned all body pics to use for comparison–is this something that is done by derm? I would love to know more about how to do that since I now have to be hyper vigilant!!!
I greatly appreciate the encourgement and the good statistics…..

              Hi
I was recently diagnosed as well– and I had a couple of prior low level cancers (breast and thyroid) but this really freaked me out–I have always been watched closely (every 6 months) by derms and have been really good about no sun exposure, etc. I wouldn’t beat yourself up over this…. one thing I learned with breast cancer is that there is often no rhyme or reason. It does seem like you have an excellent prognosis and you will continue to be vigilant. I would suggest that if you find you really are continuing to have a hard time, you may want to see a counselor. I found that immensely helpful when I had breast cancer and it helped me move past what I would call “the terror”…. and as someone said, I got back to my original life. You will too…. it is still early in the game. Also, if you are really concerned, you could consult with one of the NCI cancer centers if there is one near you… that might also alleviate your worry. Everyone in life is walking around with something they have to pay attention to-diabetes, high blood pressure, genetic illnesses, autoimmune stuff—I hope you can get some peace as you move through this.

                Debbie,
yes the follow up for my thyroid and breast cancer is done at Dana Farber– so I am thinking about talking with them about their melanoma group— these things are early and solvable- but I think I need to be vigilant with this one!
                thanks

I am new here- but my derm biopsied another mole that was unusual-not melanoma but he is still going back in to get a 1cm margin— Make me feel better now that I have had a melanoma

                    Hi
I just wanted to reach out-I am new here as well– just dx in May– melanoma on my arm stage 0/1-cannot remember– also a breast/thyroid cancer survivor-both low level– I had been going to derm every 6 months for year and years for skin checks and somehow we both missed this one— I am having an excision on one this week that is not melanoma but is a concern- plus I found a one on my chest that I feel is supsicious-but I just had my skin check a week ago and he did not mention it–but I sent him a picture yesterday– trying not to worry about something before I need to…I hope you get good news from the doc
