Things continue to get worse. My husband was Baker Acted over the weekend and now has been transferred over to the med-psych hospital unit. Psychiatrist and oncologist are involved as we believe this has to somehow be related to his cancer or treatment. I’ve been reading a lot about how so little is really known about these immunotherapies as they are still so very new. I strongly believe that his quick downward psychotic spiral has to be related to the immunotherapy. This is  far more than depression and anxiety from a cancer diagnosis.

Your story so touched my heart, Amanda!

I have two children and know that when faced with hardships I always think about my children. First and foremost I am a mom and want to cherish every single second with them.

You have such a beautiful and positive attitude and I'm sure you will raise a strong and confident little girl.

Many blessings and continued health to you!!

I can so attest to the roller coaster of emotions. My husband is typically the more optimistic one in our household but this has really sent him in a tailspin. Glad you have joined the board as you will see there are so many informative, encouraging and supportive people here!

              Sending love + healing,

              Tania

                  Hi Mike!

My husband started on Opdivo in January. Headed for his 3rd treatment next week. I think I recall you previously saying you were consulting with Moffitt. Is that where you will be having the treatment? That is where my husband goes.

From everthkng I hear Opdivo is an amazing drug and has helped many people. So far the only problem my husband seems to be having is bad insomnia. There are no reports of Opdivo causing this so I think it is most likely a side effect from anxiety.

Best of luck to you as you start this treatment!

I am definitely very optimistic with his Opdivo treatment. Just curious as to other options just in case. I find it all very fascinating but a little over my head to keep up with.

                      Thank you Celeste!

Thank you Ed for all the information! Good to know there are many options.

I find it so interesting all of these new treatments that are coming out. We at least live at a good time with many options for melanoma!

Thank you so much for posting all the links Celeste! I found it all very informative!

It’s funny but when my husband was first diagnosed he completely changed his diet….we juiced for him, he ate more greens, veggies and fruits, cut out his unhealthy eating out habits and started focusing more on his gut health.

However once starting Nivo his appetite decreased and he became more concerned about losing too much weight. So he went back to his usual unhealthy diet. I try hard to get him to eat better but he is just consumed with eating whatever sounds good and packs the most calories.

At least I can try to make healthy dinners at home (which is usually a challenge with my kids crazy schedules)! If anyone has some healthy instant pot or quick meal ideas I’d love to hear them!

Sending love + Peace to all,

Yes, I truly hope that in time we will both learn how to live in this new reality! I see a therapist and find it very helpful. Planning on making an appointment for my husband and dragging him there if I have to.

Your description of the grief and fear is so spot on!! There is definitely a lot of grieving the life that you thought you had in front of you!

I will stand firm in my belief that we can find a way to make the best of this.

                              One day at a time!!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful words x

That is good to know! This specimen was sent to a different lab than the original one that diagnosed his DM. I think I will see if we can get a sample sent over to the original lab as I would guess that they could compare against the original sample that they analyzed.

Thank you for your response Niki!

The funny thing is that my husband is a Psychologist. He does forensic work and not typical therapy but you would still think that he would know better! I think I am getting closer at convincing him to go see someone.

He has a medical marijuana license to deal with the pain from his hips. He has had five hip surgeries. His last two replacements seemed to be working and we thought he could finally get back to a normal life and bang…..hit with the big C. His anxiety has been through the roof and he believes there is a fine line with him for the cannabis and that it can actually make him more anxious so he has stopped doing that. I hear that it is really helpful for a lot of people though!
