You be upfont and say " Dr.— I have some questions I need to discuss with you.I need more information about … I would appeciate a few minutes of your time." Then be ready with your questions. Write questions in advance and hand a copy directly to the Dr. Ask about pubications that would be available…you may need to ask in advance to schedule you with a little more time. Keep asking.

I was diagnosed with stage 4 when I lost the use of my right arm and leg from a brain tumor. I was sent by ambulance for a craniotomy. We called my immediate family like you would with any major sugery. But I am not a very private person, so I had called my boss before surgery, and I was posting it on facebook as soon as I woke up. I went through rehab and treatment with facebook friends at my side. When someone heard that I was dying, I was able to stop that rumor in its tracks…We live over an hour away from the hospital so facebook allowed me to stay in touch….
I think it all depends on you….most people will be supportive. Some will find it hard to talk to you…give them time. For me I find that the more open I am the easier it is for people to handle it,and the easier it is for me…

I am currently in a clinical trial for Z with Brain mets. Only have one met in brain and several in lungs. I've been on it for just over a year. It did shrink my brain met, and more importantly I have had NO NEW mets on Zel. Side effects aren't a major issue for me. We did drop the dose to 720 due to liver issues, but since then the side effects have been easily manageable. Good luck!

I also wear a medilert bracelet so that in case of any crisis the Drs. know give steroids. I found on online that has a usb port. I anything happens to me, an EMT can immediately have accest to my med history and medication list. It also has a place for contact info so they could call any of my doctors if necessary.
