Get it checked!!!! My son was diagnosed at age 17 with Stage 3 melanoma from a mole that looked like nothing to everyone that looked at it. We were completely shocked when the pathology came back melanoma. Better safe than sorry is what I say.
Good luck!!!
Kelly
Can you let me know more info? Size? New? Color? Changing? Any history?

Hi! I am so sorry to hear this. I don't know much about it, but I believe at this age it is normally a genetic predisposition (as opposed to sun or environmental) How did it present? Do you have history? What did the doctor say? Wondering if you have had melanoma yourself, as I know it can be passed through the placenta (but very rare). Hopefully someone here will chime in who knows more, but wanted to reply and wish you all the best with this. I've never heard of a young baby having it : (

Thanks for your reply. I did have it looked at and derm said it was fine… I still wonder if I should have it checked with a dermatoscope. Sorry about your son's diagnosis! I hope he is doing ok. What did his mole look like and what made you take it off? Just curious since you said everyone said it was nothing… best wishes!

Thanks–and absolutely if pigment grows back, it is coming off (I already told derm that and he said yes)
He just didn't think taking more off now was necessary. This isn't my "main" derm… but he will take anything off, does punches, sends to a good lab and gets results within 48 hours. Only thing I don't love is how casual he is. I got a little panicky when I saw you had written that a biopsy can trigger something (I did a search on it) I suppose I could always ask the derm who said it should come off, for her opinion… but I probably should put it to bed! Thanks again : ) -

Hi- it is maybe 2-3mm. I will see if I can figure out how to post a pic. It was a PA who saw it and did not use scope. I may see derm who can use the scope next week. Even if it looked fine w/it, I would still biopsy it just in case. So my plan is now to schedule appointment for biopsy in about 2 weeks if still there. Seeing a derm beforehand would mainly be to alleviate my stress. I am leaving it alone.. I tried neosporin/alcohol/pimple medicine, etc.. none of which made a difference. It is on his forehead where he wore a sweaty hat and helmet for weeks at camp… so maybe something with sweat, but doesn't look infected or staphlike. Thanks for your reply.
