i am relatively new to the melanoma community as of may this year. my initial lesion 2 biopsies were taken because it was kinda large… 1 came back in situ… the other came with a breslow depth that made me stage 1… long story short, i also have small kids, i pushed for more testing… in oct i had a snlb that found micro mets… so my theory is your dr was being cautious because the tumors dont neccesarily grow evenly. i will keep you in my thoughts and prayers…

sorry you have had to join us! there are lots of people with information here… i am also kinda new so i am not very informative… but i am supportive. i just recently found out there was micrometastasis to my nodes as well. i have 2 kids so i completely understand tantrumming children & wish you luck with that! remember kids can pick up on our emotions more than we give them credit for… and at 13months they don't necessarily have the vocab for much other than tantrums. hang in there tho, it does get better!!! and i am sure someone with information will chime in soon!

thanks charlie! they took from both sides bc the dye settled into both sides. but it was my left side that came back with the micro mets. the new surgeon said the last surgeon removed the tumor from the initial site and there was no more melanoma there at the time of the resection and snlb.
the new surgeon discussed genetic testing bc my family has been eaten alive by breast cancer… and being a melanoma patient increases my odds even more. so he wants to know if my family carries the gene or just extremely bad luck. he says if i do carry the gene i might consider a profalactic mastectomy.
that is why i was so frightened and urgent… i can't wrap my head around how he was so not concerned at first… but once hearing family cancer history (that he could have read from my initial paperwork) he went in such a drastic difference of opion…
thank you for taking time to respond!!!!!
