I had my routine scan and blood follow-up today and was told my bilirubin took an unexpected upward movement.  As a result, I have been taken off Zelboraf and will have my blood tested again next week to see if it improves.

If there are any of you who have experienced this phenomenon, did your bilirubin return to normal limits after a “drug holiday”?  I would appreciate any information.

Oh yea, 30 months on Zelboraf my scans were good.

Dick – you’re not supposed to have any questions, you’re our expert! I had his happen in July, was really sick with it, fely awful. I took 5 days off, then a week on 2 pills twice a day, then back to my normal 3 twice a day. It was back up a little when I went in 9/4 but haven’t been off since. Best of luck to you! At least my feet were happy dancing for a couple of weeks!

Have not had problems with my bili levels. But I wanted to say I am happy to hear about your scans : )  . I know you mentioned you had a little scanxiety going into them & just am glad you can now rest assured since they were great.

I bet a Z break will return the bili to normal. I hope you can do something special to enjoy your drug holiday!!

Thanks for your thoughts.  I always took my pills at 6:30 am and pm (or at least as close to that as possible).  My second day of my "holiday" my wife let me sleep and I did not awake until 7:15.  So,,,,, perhaps there are other benefits to a drug holiday. lol.

Dick, I wasn't on Zelboraf two months before I was hospitalized due to high bilirubin. At it's highest it was over 11. (norm is less than 1)  They ran about a hundred tests before they decided it was from the zel. I think I was off for three weeks. Then started at a 6 pill a day dose.  I also now take no other drugs that must process through the liver unless there is no other choice.
