        Hi Richard,
In the year 2000 my punch biopsy was 0.85mm and the wide level excision (WLE) was 0.95mm.
I have not gone through treatment other than the wide level excision and have been no evidence of disease (NED) since. I did have many trips to my dermatologist and had many suspicious moles (dysplastic) removed early after my diagnosis.
I have been the poster child for sun safety, but continue to be out in the sun gardening, swimming, bicycling but with protective clothing and sun block.
All my best to you. Just wanted to drop a note of encouragement based on experience.

Am I wrong, but isn’t Melanoma Awareness Month the month of May?

            What great news Natasha!

This is what we were all hoping for. What a terrible time for you to have to worry about cm vs mm! Since your Latvian diagnosis it must have been like a never ending bad dream.

I wonder if they want to do a new WLE in order to make sure they get wide enough margins. If that were presented to my by a derm or surgeon I would certainly do it. I have no clue about your IVF issue.

Congratulations, I'm so happy for you.

Ok, I am now officially uncrossing my fingers,… whew that was a long time.

Ahhh, yes it seems that this forum is not what it used to be when it was the MPIP. There was lots of activity and support given “back in the day”. I have not visited this page in a long time. Thanks Ed for your quick reply>

                          Hey Natasha,

My fingers are beginning to cramp holding them crossed for good luck as we wait to hear about the true depth of your mm. Having researched this for eleven years now I find that one cannot count on anything in terms of metastasis or re-occurrence.
Minnesota in the previous post does make a point that many of us that have had negative SNLB's and no re-occurrence do not hang around here much mentioning that we are fine.

My mm was 0.85mm deep and categorized as Clarks level III. Location was on my left thigh.

It took me about three years to become really comfortable again in my skin. No, I did not loose sleep or change my life in any way, but it took some time to get over the daily fear. Like Minnesota said above – "The first thought I have when I wake up each morning is, "I have cancer,"-

I have been waking up for many years now without thinking of my melanoma. I do however have the realization that it could come back in the future.

Please let us know the outcome of your second opinion. I'm holding out for 0.2mm depth.

                          Best,

                          Mike N, (also in Minnesota)
