      Thank you for all the replies. This information is helpful. I’m getting a wide local excision this afternoon. I’m glad this was caught early and I will continue to be vigilant. Any tips are appreciated!

      Thank you Stacy!  That was very helpful.  I will definitely be looking into the Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center.  When my mom was diagnosed with melanoma last year, she was also sent to KU.  She is now cancer free.  I know you are in good hands over there.  Wishing you a speedy recovery.  Thanks again for your help!

      Thank you, that makes me feel better!  I really don't know why my dermatologist decided that mole looked unusual, but I will be sure to ask next time I talk to her. She seemed like she was in a hurry when she removed the mole, so there wasn't much time for questions.  Hopefully she was just being extra cautious. Will post up results when I find out.
