Please take care. I can't speak for myself but my father had a mole on hbis back removed back in 2007 which turned out to be amelanotic melanoma. Thickness 0.6mm, margins were clear after a second cut. So check-ups every 6 months but no further treatment. After 5 years he had to do annually check-ups.

It came back last year with mets to his bones and lungs and the fight lasted 8 months until it was over.

I don't want to scare anyone – we know now he had a very aggressive melanoma – but please be careful and do regularly check-ups even if everyone says chances are very low for it to return because of the low thickness.

        Best regards

My father was on Zelboraf for three months (BRAFi only, not BRAF-MEK combo) and at three months, new mets appeared on his skin. As far as i know BRAF-MEK combo works a few months longer before the cancer gets resistant. He had to stop Zelboraf and after one week later got his first infusion of Nivolumab. Zelboraf did stop the mets from growing but didn't shrink anything. Nivolumab didn't work also because the mets literally exploded all over his body after BRAF-i didn't work anymore.

From this experience, i would advise to switch to immunotherapy while Inhibitors still work and maybe get it in combination for the first one or two infusions of immunotherapy to avoid the cancer from growing rapidly after stopping the inhibitor therapy.

Hope it works better for you. Best wishes.

First of all, welcome to this forum. Sorry that your family has to deal with this monstrous disease.

Keytruda is one of the best and newest treatments out there, especially for a stage 3 patient. Most people receive this treatment only at stage 4. It can have very serious side effects so i guess this is the reason that she doesnt’t get it at full dosage since she isn’t stage 4 and thus the lower dose could be already enough to help her. Alway remember that quality of life is cery important, too. Best of luck.

I second that. From my own experience, personality change can be a symptome of brain mets.Hope we are wrong, though.

Maybe ask her how about giving him Dexamthasone? This is a serious situation – if brain mets are bleeding damage could be permanent if he isn't treated as soon as possible. Please try to convince him.
