I am not going to make light of the fact that it is in his brain or stage 4, but let me say I wouldn’t start thinking all is lost. I have been stage 4 for 7 yrs with a brain met. For me targeted radiation and keytruda have been the best route. I couldn’t even tell you what to ask the surgon since I stopped mine short with I don’t want the details just get it out, but that’s just me. Best of luck to your dad and remember to try not to look at anything more than whats in front of you, it’s exhaustive and scary to do it any other way. -

Hello I have been on Keytruda for 16 months. 25 treatments. Stuffy head b
nearly drove me crazy. I went to a local place called the salt room where basically you sit in a room and inhale salt. Like being at the beach. Another suggestion I purchased a navage nasal irrigation also uses salt…worked wonders. Look it up on line. Its line 50 dollars and worth every penny. As for all the aches I still suffer with those spend a great deal of time with icy hot and a heating pad. Aleve and tramadol. Currently trying to find something else for the pain. The stuffy head did eventually go away. Best of luck and hang in there. -

I should have mentioned that in my post but I completely agree with the other ladies, you absolutely need a melanoma specialist. They live, breath and eat the science behind this diesease and while you may love your Dr and they maybe fully capable they do not always have the latest and greatest info on new drugs or in what combo of things may work better. Everyone is different so they may not always take the same path and a specialist will understand the ins and outs so much more. -

Yes Gary you are correct there certainly is. My shoulder pain is caused from the inflammation side effect of the drug. The spot sits next to my aorta and for the last 9 months the entire left side of my chest, back, neck and arm has been in some level of pain. It seems to concentrate mostly in my shoulder and I have been unable to get any relief from it for at least the last 3 – 4 months. Which can cause other problems such as permanent damage to that area i.e. never being out of pain so at this point my thinking is that if I am gonna be in pain I want the spot gone. At least then I feel like the pain is worth it and hoping it will be gone also. Any suggestions on pain meds? Because what I taking now sure isn’t doing the trick. -

Thank you ladies. That was something I have considered. Guess I’ll have to wait and see what the radiation oncologist says. It is extremely clise to my aorta so up till this point it has been treatment only because of the risks. I have been taking tramadol and aleve for pain. Any suggestions on pain relievers? Had some oxy and that didn’t touch it either so I don’t know what else to do with it. I am going to push for radiation because while I know it doesn’t guarantee it won’t come back, up until this point it’s pretty much been just that one spot. -
