I always found the hardest part was seeing the one you love in pain or depressed. Please take advantage of every day, even in the hospital. You can’t get them back. I wish I could have one more day in the hospital to hear my wife’s laugh. I know its tough. Hang in there.

Hey kevin, it’s chris. My wife and I were in Thorton with you during both of your first IL 2s. We find it helpful to record on my iPhone ever time doctors talk to us. I then file it on our computer. It can be very helpful and I can access any conversation in seconds on my iPod when needed. Just to update you on Melissa, she did 6 months of il2 with a partial response but stopped when they found 6 brain mets. She finished her last cyber knife deal today at Moores. She got to ring the bell and the waiting room clapped for her. Next step, get her off the steroids and siezure meds.
Hang in there, I know we will!

Shes up and atom now. Responsive but a little bummed out about the obvious and her drivers license. Not sure why it happened but they have put her on anti seizure medication and are resuming radiosugery on Monday.
                So happy she’s alive!!

Hang in there. For my wife the second round always hit her harder then the first. She would do sets of 2 rounds. It will end, I promise. With the baths be carful with the temp, it seemed hot showers and warm bathes made her itch more after. Is your heart rate down and can sleep a little now? I hope so. After a few cycles Melissa really just give up on the lotions because it didn’t seem to do much. I think it damaged her skin a little worse. I would continue to lube up. And don’t for get to hydrate. Water can do wonders on many levels. Her cankles would last a while sometimes. If she was on her feet to long it seemed the swelling would float down to her ankles. If you can put your feet up. Helps her. You are strong and the body is resilient. You can get through it. Cant be itchy for too much longer now. Almost there!

This is all great information and it helps a lot to her you speak out. We had a great dinner last night and got out all our fears. Tough but meaningful.

We leave for Maui in the morning to meet our friends there and are very excited finally to have some “us” time. No scuba but we rented a boat instead to go look at the whales with!

Ready to kick some but when we return with a clear head. Each day since the news has been getting better and more hopeful. Some r and r will do us nice

Thanks for your quick and useful responses.

Enjoy your weekends, I know we will!

My wife completed her second cycle of high dose IL-2 last month.  Each time she goes in for a week, out for a week, in for a week out for 5 weeks then scan. That first week was so bad because we had done no research and it was sprung on us so fast do to the quick spread she was encountering.  The following times we had this same exact list and it helped so much! She showed a partial response which is what is keeping us in it.  I know it can be tough to get through without knowing exactly what its doing.  It seems that the second week is has been worse both times.  The effects seem to linger longer.  She is almost always better after a week.   The doc will not let her take the lasik so the worse part for her is the weight gain, she gains 30-40 pounds each time and moving around can be tough along with the peeling and itching.

Some things i didn't see on the list that she really likes were oatmeal baths for the itching, but not to hot because that makes her itch more, and some special eye lid stuff she uses,  i cant remember what its called but her eyes seem to peel really bad.

I know it can be challenging but I try to either be at the hospital or have a good friend be there at all times especial near the end of the week.  When the insomnia sets in and lack of sleep can make you sad it really helps her to have a person their to make her laugh that she is comfortable seeing her in a venerable state.  She also has trouble sleeping the first few days back but we would give her some Tylonal PMs to help and we just try to keep her mind off it.  After her heart rate slows she conks out for like a full day.

                            Hang in there!

Overall def herder this time for her. One case of rigors at the beginning of the week. And still super itchy and peeling everywhere. They stopped her at 11 doses also due 130+ bpm for a few hours during thursday night. She said she thought her heart was going to explode. She also had a low blood pressure episode earlier that day. Up all night last night with bad dreams but she is finally sleeping tonight. You guys will be back to normal in a few days then get to enjoy a whole month! Good luck on the scans
