The Mayo Clinic including the Scottsdale location have expanded access PD1. To  qualify for the expanded access program you do have to complete ipi first. My husband has been on the expanded access program at Beverly Hills Cancer Center since April. It was the first location to have it available and is where he has been treated all along by Dr. O'Day.  He will have his first scans since the PD 1 in July.  He has no tumors that can be felt so we don't  know what is happening, but he feels great.  Much better than he has since being diagnosed April, 2013.  He has mucosal melanoma of the sinus.  Been through 3 surgeries, chemo, radiation. Cyber knife, 2 rounds of ipi, etc.  Dr. O'Day is very optimistic that good things are happening now.

Yes, Medicare covers Yervoy for melanoma as long as it is medically necessary. Medicare covers 80% of the allowed amount (Medicare fee schedule) and your secondary insurance pays the other 20%.  Be sure you buy secondary insurance.  These treatments are very expensive.

My husband is on the MK3475  EAP and will have his 4th infusion Tuesday. The labs done at the second infusion already showed a reduction in his LDH numbers.  He doesn't have any tumors that can be felt so we won't know for sure until his scans in July what is really happening.  He feels good though and Dr. O'Day is very optimistic.  He told us responses can sometimes occur very early on with this treatment.

My husband's original diagnosis was mucosal melanoma of the sinus in April 2013.  It has spread and he is stage 4 and is currently on the Merck PD1 expanded access trial.  Among his many treatments, he has had Cyberknife twice. Once for "clean up" of original sinus surgeries and recently for a tumor that was pushing down on his eye.  Great success both times.  For a tumor that was in his hip bone, they used traditional radiation – a one time dose.  That too was successful.  We go to Dr. O'Day at Beverly Hills Cancer Center.
