I was in a similar situation with my father. He didn't have any mets/tumors in his brain but that was the only part of his body that was clear. In fact today is exactly one year since his first surgery. He also failed interferon and IL-2, he had just started a clinical trail and recieved two treatments of ipi. Try to stay positive, Good Luck.

Lee,
My father was diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma after his initial surgery. His insurance did not cover clinical trails in full but we found a hospital conducting the trail, they ended up accepted what our insurance (blue cross) as payment in full. Physicians/Hospitals can write off these instances as "bad debt" and receive tax benefits that allow them to recoup this money. Please let me know if you ave any questions or need additional information.
Thanks,

Bob,
I recently lost my father to melanoma. He had wide spread metastatic disease so this was not an option for him. Have you heard of cyberknife? I don't know all the details of your current diagnosis but I feel it is something you should look into. It's a Non-Invasive Radiosurgery Robot that delivers high levels of radiation to areas of the body with extreme accuarcy. Basically, the tumors recieve the radiation needed to shrink without envolovement of the rest of the body and minumal if any recovery time. I've attached a link to the general cyberknife site, please contact me if you have ANY questions or comments.
Good Luck,

Adrienne,
My father was in a similar situation with exception of brain mets. After one treatment of ipi his tumors got hard and some began to get smaller. His body was so weak he was unable to complete the clinical trial, still we all felt the ipi was working. He previously failed IL-2 as well. We got into the clinical trail through a referral from our oncologist so you can always start there.
Good luck,
Amber
