Yes, you can survive brain mets. I am a stage IV long term survivor. I had 2 brain mets in 2004 which were treated with srs.

I had mets to many other organs. I have been clear of melanoma for almost 9 years now.

      There is hope!!!

      Best of luck

      Lisa,

I think I responded to one of your posts a while ago.  I had 2 small brain mets, and mets to several other organs. I have been free of disease for 6 years now.

In my case the main treatment was surgery (lung, spine and small bowels) and srs (similar to GK) for the brain mets. All my problems stopped once I started Leukine/GM-CSF. Me and my oncos believe that GM-CSF helped my immune system keep the mel under control.

      Keep up the fight!

      Lisa,

I want to wish you best of luck with your treatment. I know how unsettling it is to deal with brain mets. I had two small mets in 2003-04 which were treated with srs (similar to GK). The radiation onco also mentioned WBR but I turned it down.

I am still here doing great, more than 5 years NED. See my other post under brain mets roll call.

      Best wishes,

      Alicia

I had a couple of small brain mets in 2003-2004. They were treated with srs.

I also had a lung met, spine met, intestinal mets…all these treated with surgery as they happend at different times during a 2 year period. I have been NED for over 5 years. My mets stopped once I started GM-CSF.

I am still here doing very well, too busy living my life so I don't visit the board very often.

There are so many promising treatments now that weren't available at that time.

      Keep up the hope.

I totally agree with Charlie! I am shocked that some oncos are still prescribing Interferon. Can you do GM-CSF instead? This worked for me, it was the end of all my reocurrences.
