Hello everyone Since FDA approve Yervoy for stage 3, I was wondering if anyone had started on it? For the ones that has been on it what is the pro and con of it?? I am stage 3 and about to meet with the melanoma specialist next week to see about treatment plans a since this is all new to me. I have one positive lymph node out of 17. Any kinds of helpful question I should ask would be great.. Thanks

If you read my posts, there is a lot of information regarding my husbands experience with yervoy. Don't be scared off with the list of side effects. Be on top of them and they are manageable.

I had Yervoy last winter. Of course the type and severity of side effects are different for each person, but here is my experience with them:
An itchy rash that started almost immediately after my first infusion. Prednisone made it manageable. But I was on it for some 4 months, and I was very glad when I was able to wean off of it.
Some mild to moderate diarrhea.
About three weeks after my last infusion, I got really ill. Couldn't eat. I lost about 15 pounds. Things gradually improved, and everything returned to normal in about three weeks.
I had a very mild residual rash on my chest that lasted for several months.
Yervoy didn't rid me of my tumors, but it stabilized them for a time. But then a few new spots popped up, leading my oncologist to put me on Keytruda, which I am currently receiving.

I'm a retired teacher. So I don't work a full time job, but I engage in a variety of things that comes close to equalling a full time job. I substitute teach, write for a blog, and coach soccer. The only time I wasn't able to do any of those things was the three weeks I mentioned when I got really sick to my stomach. Even then I went in to substitute one day and made it through.

Hi!
I'm currently on Yervoy (stage 4) and have had 2 treatments so far. My 3rd treatment is in 2 days and I haven't had one problem. Literally..nothing! Considering I spent a month in interferon treatment, I have counted my lucky starts this treatment has been so easy. It is different for everyone and I've been very fortunate! The only thing that gets me is the day of treatment itself. It seems to wipe me out about half way through the infusion. I tend to sleep on the way home and crash the rest of the day. I've been able to work full time with no problems. I do take off the day of treatment and since I go on a Thursday, my boss gives me Friday as a bonus rest day but I'm usually up and moving like any other day. I wish Yervoy would have been available for me at Stage 3 and so, so happy for those who can get access now! I think it's very tolerable and wish you the best!! ๐

Hi – just curious if you have gone to your apt. I am also a 3A and met with my medical oncologist last week. Did your oncologist offer yervoy to you? Mine did put it one the list but seemed kind of hesitant. She mentioned a few other things as well. It's a very tough decision.
Thanks!
