I will be starting zelboraf  soon. I will have MRI on liver and if  it is not involved

-surgery on lung and mass in thigh  may occur. There is a spot near liver –scan not clear on

whether on or by–I have already read enough about the effects of lung surgery to wonder whether that would work for me.

I am in good health but am 72 and do not want to spend months recuperating.I love helping  toddler grandchildren-carpool,child care

Sorry to hear you are also having to battle Melanoma.  I don't know how much advice I can give at this time.  I started Zelboraf 2/21/13 at 2 pills 2 times a day.  WEnt up to 3 pils twice a day on 2/28/13.  Dr. stopped me completely for a few days yesterday because my rash and joint pain was so severe.  Hope to be able to start back up at the low dose on Monday.

My Met was in my arm and now a spot on the liver.  Had a knot come up under my eye yesterday I am concerned about, but have a Dermatologist appointment tomorrow.

I have found this forum to be very helpful so far.  It might help for you to do a search on the specific area you had a question about and see if someone has already answered that question.

          God Bless and stay strong.

You have no profile and I’m not clear on your question. Why are you doing zelboraf if you are doing surgery soon for all your tumors? How big are they?

I hope you’re being seen by a melanoma specialist.

Is the zelboraf being considered for the spot near/on your liver. Do you know yet if you will be having the other two sites removed surgically? Do they plan to start the zelboraf before surgery? I guess I am asking SO many questions. I was on zelboraf for abt 7 months and experienced various side effects… and to various degrees. I ended up having to reduce the dosage right away after the first week because of a severe skin reaction. So, I was taking 3 in the morning, and 3 at night. I still had quite a few side effects for the duration of my treatment. Some people get along well with minimal side effects, or very manageable ones. And others have a more difficult time of it. If you are recovering from amajor surgery, as well, that would also make a difference.  I remember how mush I appreciaed being able to talk with others who were on this drug, since it is such a new thing. You will find a wealth of help on here as you go forward.
