    Dear Friends,
Why do a few people continually post “anonymously”? I’m not talking about a newbie, or a sensitive subject. It’s not like we don’t know who they are. I could say that when more than 1 anonymous posts on the same thread it gets confusing, but really, that only happened once, so who would I be kidding? Why can’t “Anonymous” simply pick a name, like Matilda, or Pricilla?
    A) does this bother anyone else? and
    B) Janner, you have the patience of a saint.
    Best to all,
    karen

I usually notice that anon posts have a negative or opposing view that maybe a regular would not want that view known.  Anyhow, I don't like them either.

The problem is you can't pick two personas.  One to be "you" and one to ask questions you don't want tied to "you".  Some people still distrust the internet and realize they signed up with an identifiable name.  Posting anonymously fixes that.  Some have family members who also read the board and posters don't want to be recognized.  Yes I have posted anonymously myself.  Rarely, but there are times when I don't want a post tied to "Janner" (saint that I am, LOL).  For the most part, I think it is pointless but I don't let it bother me.  I feel the reason that "anonymous" posting exists far outweighs the annoyance factor for me.

Well for me it goes directly to character. If you are not willing to "own" your opinion, then you probably should keep it to yourself. For almost 12 years now I have openly stated my opinions on a wide variety of topics. And of course, with that comes both positive and negative reaction. But like a plaque at the helm station of my boat says, "right or wrong I'm still the captain".  So right or wrong you will always know my opinion.

      Karen,

I  ditto some of janners remarks.  I did also post as annon. after my brother passed because of my family.  i did not want them upset but I did put myname at the end of my comment.  i do believe some on this forum want an "unbiased opinion"

I also believe some use the annon. as a way to maybe voice an opinion out of fear, anger, or whatever.  Maybe there are other who have had some privacy invasio events in the past.  All of thee topics show up when googled and if they hae a profile then that info can be viewed. I see your point and undestand.  Just hoe everyone on this forum who posts as annon…are all on the same level as all of us…..Patients/warriors/caregivers/Family members who lost a loved one to this horrible nightmare of a disease.

      Thanks for th topic

      Regards

        Hi all,
I’ve also posted anon as well once or twice. I never thought about family members or Google issues, so thanks for pointing those things out. I guess I wonder about people who post anon all the time–it annoys me but it’s really none of my business.
It’s nice to see this side of the board.

Yes, it can be annoying.  My biggest problem is that it is harder to respond properly to many of their posts.  I have no problem with believing that the value of the capability far out weighs any irritation we feel.  If I have a major problem with something someone says I often will email one rather than take up  BB resources.  Kind of hard to do with Annons.  Privacy issues should be the main reason it is used.  Having a psuedo name for log in can help with this issue, it would let us know each other, but still restrict families from knowing.  I have often seen Ladies come in with melanoma in their private areas and initially feel very leary of posting anythig that will let others in anyway even remotely identify them.  I am not sure that after getting familiar with us that any have not chosen a name to be used.
