I'm in the Philadelphia area and would like to know which hospital to go to for Melanoma consult or treatments. University of Pennsylvania, Fox Chase or Jefferson. Do any of them have Melanoma Clinics that can be recommended or particular doctors that are well known in the Melanoma field?

      Thanks in advance.

I'm also in Philly area and just had my WLE and SLNB done by Dr Berger at Jefferson. One if his specialties is melanoma and he was very highly recommended by two different dermatologists.

UPenn is also well known for melanoma – so prominent melanoma specialists are there.  You're probably fine at either institution.

I was in your boat back in 2011. When I asked about melanoma doctors in the Phillie area, Abramson Cancer Center, which is affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania was highly recommended. Ask for an appointment with Dr. Lynn Schuchter. She's the top melanoma doctor at Abramson. https://www.pennmedicine.org/providers/profile/lynn-schuchter

For Stage IV, no question–Dr. Schuchter at UPenn.  For early stage, all of the institutions you named are fine.

I have been treated at Penn for the past 2 years.  Very good place, very experienced, very mel specific.  Dr. S. is excellent and so is her staff.

My husband met w Drs at fox chase and UPenn, and ultimately ended up w a dr at Sloan Kettering.  Unfortunately, we ended up w a dr other than dr Schucter at Penn and  I was very unimpressed w him.  It's very hard to switch docs once you get started at a hospital, so definitely insist on dr.  Schucter.  We did love Tony Olzhanski at fox chase, but they don't have the same experience as Penn or Sloan Kettering.

That's an important point.  I actually started with a different doc (I believe I know yours and I have a friend who is very happy with him, for what that's worth).  After about 6 months, I demanded a new doc for various reasons and ended up with Dr. S.  I have no negative thoughts to offer, just that it wasn't the right fit for me and I'm very happy I changed.
