Does anybody know if Yervoy can cause lymph nodes to inflame? I felt some tenderness in my lower jaw and underneath the jaw the other night and havn't stopped touching it. The left side now looks a tiny bit swollen and when I touch the area, it feels tender all the way down, like a muscle. There are no lumps or bumps, just a puffy feeling all the way down.

My Dr. doesn't seem overly concerned, but has ordered a head and neck CT when I get my scans on Hallowe'en. I just got over a cold and have some slight fullness in my ear, so it could be an infection. Just started some penacillian, so we'll see if things get better in a few days. I'm trying to keep in mind that my immune system is reacting, so it could be the lymph nodes responding.
Anybody have any idea? I know it could be absolutely nothing related to melanoma, but it's also hard not to panic.

I have had a lot of stiffness in my neck–even more so than after my full lymph node dissection in March–since beginning the ipi trial in May. Still, ever since I had lymph nodes removed, any time I have the slightest bit of infection, I swell. They have ordered scans and did a needle biopsy, but all has been well so far. Hopefully it is just an infection you can clear up with some medicine! Best wishes to you!

Lisa, I wonder if the lymph nodes could be swollen due to an ear infection? See:

Frank,
Let's hope it's swollen from an infection. I started my penacillin today, so we'll see if it goes away. I've been under so much stress with my scans coming up, that I've had alot of tension in my back and neck. It could be a muscle and not lymph nodes – I have no idea. I feel better knowing I can't feel nodes or even bumps or lumph under my skin – just sort of puffy and inflammed and a bit tender. When I had the melanoma spread to my groin lymph nodes, they were hard as rock and didn't hurt.
I've been feeling perfect, but since scanxiety set in, I'm a nervous wreck!
Thanks for sending me the link Frank – much appreciated.

Lisa, I think that the fact that there are no lumps to be felt is a very good sign. If it is a bacterial infection, the penicillin should help with that. However if it doesn't, the inflammation might be due to a viral cause such as the common cold.
You may have seen the new topic that I posted called "scanxiety and relaxation techniques". I have a bit of experience in teaching meditation, so let me know if you have any questions about this area.
You remain in my prayers.
