Liver Mets and Keytruda

      I read somewhere that Keytruda is not very effective with liver mets compared to mets elsewhere in the body and in fact the ORR is under 20 percent.

      I asked my doctor if i could get my liver mets resected but he wanted me to go on Keytruda for a few months first because there is mel in two other places

      Now i guess my question is that if I progress in three months time it might well be too late to do anything as the liver mets will be too big.

      He also told me that the liver would shut down in about six months without treatment for the liver mets.

      All in all very depressing stuff.

          Hi Anon,

          As I am sure you are aware, there is no one treatment plan that carries a guarantee.  Keytruda has promising data behind it.   You seem as though you are looking for assurances that I am not sure anyone can give you. At the end of the day, you need to select a treatment plan and provider that you are comfortable with.  Then trust that approach and provider.  If you choose systemic treatment, you will need to give it enough time to prove its effectiveness (or lack thereof).  Give yourself a "re-evaluation date" and then relax and live your life until that date.  None of us have received guarantees from any of our doctors.  But if you do not trust your doctor, you should find another.  Best of luck to you.

              My liver and lung mets were the first to vanish on Keytruda. After my 2nd scan and treatment #10.  I still have adrenal gland masses and various spots in thoracic region but the liver and lungs were first to heal. 

              Of course we are all different and don't know who responds to what and why- but thought I'd weigh in that I had success with the liver.

                      I understand your concern about the liver mets and the efficiency of Keytruda. It is also better to start with a lower tumor burden if possible. You can always ask for a second opinion from another melanoma specialist.

                          hi there, I have liver mets too. I have been on ippi and mine have shrunk 50% and I am asking why not take the mets away while smaller than wait for them to grow I am frustrated with it . I am seeing another opinion I would rather have them removed. How many do you have what size. I also have lung mets too . Feel ok pain now again but manage to do daily duties.

One option is an embolism and another is radiation pellets. Both from what I've read have pretty good success in shrinking liver tumors plus combining with keytruda immunotherapy should get that Orr way up but I dunno the data on it. Something to think about and maybe give you some better hope.
