Hi I was just wondering how many ladies here have been diagnosed with breast cancer after melanoma. Doing radiation now for stage 1 breast cancer. First melanoma was in 2007 stage 2, then another in situ in 2013, now breast cancer. Is this common? Thanks

Unfortunately, we are at higher risk for other cancers. http://cancer.uams.edu/?id=11086&sid=2

But wouldn't the immunotherapy help to prevent other cancers as well?

As I understand it from my breast surgeon, similar genetic factors link melanoma, breast cancer and three others that I can not now remember.

That's an interesting point. I found this article that talks about a trial for breast cancer with ipi. http://www.mskcc.org/blog/new-immunotherapy-approach-breast-shows-promise.

I really know very little about this, but my aunt ( breast cancer, i think stage 2) recently went through genetic testing because all but 1 woman in my family has had pre-menapausal breast cancer. They tested maybe 20 different genes. I recall one of them was an indicator for both melanoma and breastfeeding cancer. Again, I have very little knowledge about this, but thought you might find it interesting if you are wanting to do some more digging. Good luck with treatment!!!! Sending you best wishes and hope everything goes well.

My doctor in salt lake city, only treats melanoma and breast cancer. He is a melanoma specialist so i am assuming because he treats primarily only melanoma and breast cancer that they are some what related, maybe due to lymph node involvement in both?? Keep fighting and good luck.
