Flu shots are coming to town next Tuesday and all of a sudden I have this dilemna.  I'm on compassionate ipi, has anybody taking ipi be allowed to have a flu shot?  I'm going to try to get answer from the doctors in the next few days, otherwise, I think I'll have to pass on it.  Val

The compassionate use trial exclusion criteria say you're supposed to avoid live vaccines for 28 days before and after ipi.  I skipped getting my flu vaccine so as not to mess up my chances of getting in to the trial.  I told my husband he had to get the shot so he wouldn't give me the flu later!

My Doc says no Flu shot, Val – don't mess with your immune system while on Ipi.

              Best,

              Jim

You don't really need a flu shot. I am on another trial with ipi for a year now, and last year my husband and son had the flu (more than once). I did get a runny nose, but that was it. One advantage of being on ipi!

                          Hi Val,

Last year BMS came out with a strick guideline of no flu shots period.  I believe the reason is that they do not want to "over" stimulate the immune system and cause additional side effect problems.
