My 12 week scan was good news and now the 16th week scan after ipi is still good. Had my scan today and was told I have no new mets anywhere.  The mets in my lungs are still shrinking (slowly) and the rest are remaining stable.  My Dr. was very happy and said he'd see me in 2 months.  I also asked about getting a brain MRI since I had 2 brain mets gamma knifed, but he said he's not concerned, unless I have symptoms.  If the ipi is working on my current  cancer in the lungs, then maybe it will keep the brain mets from coming for awhile.

2 other things I learned today that is also great news.  My hospital in Toronto, Canada starts Anti-PD1 trials and is open to people who've done ipi.  He said if I progressed, I could either do ipi or Anit PD-1.  He also told me that he's had a great few weeks seeing some patients with bad scans at Week 12 and now good responses at week 16 and 20.

I know there's no cure for this cancer, but at least I can feel happy about things now.  It's also great to hear some Dr's had patients on this drug who are still kickin' it 4 years and some 8 years later!!

One other thing I wanted to mention.  For those of you who may respond to ipi, don't ever think that you now have a couple of months extra to live (which is what these stupid stats talk about). Believe that you could be someone lucky enough to last much longer. A positive mind is half the battle and you can't give up.

Great news Lisa…so happy for you.

Do you know what PD1 trial is opening in Canada. Who is the sponsor (ie: Merck, Curetech, Genetech??)

Continued shrinkage. Like your positive attitude.

great news for you. It seems ipi is a miracle. alot of people have reported shringage of mels. I am past the 3rd treatment but bec of side effects, dr. is holding off the 4th until Mon. I hope I have your success. As far as the future, I have taken on the attitude of one day at a time. Hope for great news inthe future, but have to just look at what is now.

      good luck JML

Lisa, congratulations on the great scan results! Having no new mets is a very encouraging sign. It is also good to hear about the Anti-PD1 trials in Toronto.

A positive attitude is essential and as you have said, you can't give up.

      You remain in my prayers.

      Lisa,

Glad to hear the good report on Ipi!   I recently listened to a Webnar with my mel specialist discussing Yervoy. One part was talking about stats.  He said that in part of the stats it includes those that don't work! So when they statisically take in all info they include all patients!  He also talks about one of his patients that has now been 108 weeks and never took one day off from work (jokingly he did put in that it was for cancer treatment reasons).  Remember that when you read any stats they use info that is not related to you!!

I finally have my mri scheduled for next Tuesday.  I sure hope I can get off of these steroids!!!!   Still having issues and so glad that your not having to deal with side effects.

Thanks for posting Lisa!  Always good to hear other news about people stayin on this treatment for YEARS…

I know list all illnesses, especially cancer, they can mutate, etc and overcome treatments, etc, and I'm truly hoping Yervoy can be the new drug that will give many hundreds, or thousands and eventually MILLIONS of people new hope to keep beating this damn beast.

GOOD NEWS FOR ME LISA!! I will post more tomorrow after I get back from my visit to the Brain Doctor & Melanoma doctors, but the Melanoma nurse just emailed me and said they have GOOD NEWS! This must mean Yervoy is working for me too (you don't know how happy I am right now on that front).  I can only hope the Brain is the same way, shrinking those damn leftover tumors away!

Thanks everyone. Even though you never know what’s going to happen, sometimes you can just enjoy life until the next set of scans and hope for the best.

Momof2kids, I’m looking forward to your news. It sounds like you might be enjoying this holiday season with great happiness!

Lynda – I hope you can get off those steroids and hear news that your brain met is shrinking.

        Don’t give up believing!
