This is Artie’s college sister……he’s at Bjc awaiting spinal surgery on Tuesday to remove the T10 vertebrae and tumor to prevent paralysis.
Have the tafinlar and mekinist at home to start. Have gene analysis on tumor, still hoping to get to MSK and Sarah Cannon.

Thank you so much for taking the time to update us about Artie's surgery. While I know that such surgery is scary, I am very glad that he will finally be able to get rid of this tumor and get the vertebra repaired. I pray that he has a quick and complete recovery and that he will soon be able to post here again.

By the way, when Artie is feeling up to it, please ask him to post a question here about Cabozantinib (trade name Cometriq). It is an FDA approved drug that has been shown to attack bone mets in several different types of cancer and there is some preliminary evidence that it attacks bone mets in melanoma, too.

Here is one of many articles about it: Cabozantinib (XL184) Demonstrates Antitumor Activity and Reduces or Eliminates Bone Metastases in Multiple Cancers  Jim Breitfeller, who recommended this drug in another thread, may have more information about it.

Spinaal surgery is always worrisome.  Hopefully also a saving surgery.  Praying for him.  Like Jim and POW info.

Just got call from Artie’s Dad, they can’t do the surgery because if the way the blood vessel is situated. He’s devastated and is terrified to move. According to Dad, the doctors gave them no hope. If he moves wrong he could become paralyzed at any time just moving at all.
Right now, that is all I know.
