My doctor just called me and told me he had my results. He said that he took 26 lymph nodes and saliva gland. He said that everything came back negative. Wow! Such a sigh of relief I can a least breath a little bit easier for now. I know I will have to constantly be vigil and be aware of what’s going on with my body, but it’s such I great feeling getting the all clear after your life’s been completely turned upside down by finding out you have stage 3b melanoma. Thanks everyone ont this board for your support and stories they are such a huge help!

I know that feeling when I got my 3A dx and got the all clear on the rest on the lymph nodes.  The only better feeling was when my first full set of scans 3 months later came back clear!  Hears hoping you follow my lead.  Yippee for you!!!!!!!!!

Your young…once you get that dang tube out…go enjoy your wife and kids!  Try to only think about Mel when you have to.

      Good Luck,

I don't wish to be a spoil sport here – but this is my take on it (and I have lived thru this !)

'Negative'  lymph nodes does not always mean the cancer is fully taken out by the WLE…

The timing of the lymph node removal might be a little early – which means the cancer has still not reached the lymph nodes  – but travelling towards it  –  this is a scary thought  – but true – and a cancer specialist agreed with my hopothesis.

so, please be extra careful and get good nutrition and STAY OUT OF THE SUN .

I had a postivie SNLB when they also did my WLE. this surgery which was two months after the SNLB and WLE was to remove more of the lymph nodes to check for further spread. the saliva gland was removed as it is inter twined with the lymph nodes in that area.

The timing of the lymph node removal isn't too early in your example. There is no such thing as taking out the lymph nodes "too early". The lymph node removal is not intended to be curative or at treatment. It is a diagnostic tool only. The reason you may still progress is because cells may have already started travelling and moved outside of the WLE area. I guess the result is the same in my reasoning vs. your reasoning. There is always the chance that cells are roaming the body for any of us. But it is VERY good news when the WLE and SNB are negative, and in my opinion, if there are still cancer cells, it is not because the SNB was done "too early". jmho.
