I had my appointment today with my Dr and went over my CT scans.  As mentioned before, I had the majority of my nodules shrink – by 50%!!  He said this is incredibly successful and in his trial, I'm the first patient with the fastest decrease.  I had 2 nodules that grew a little bit, so instead of waiting 12 weeks, he's going to scan me in another 4 weeks to see how they look.

Now for the brain lesion they found. It's 2cm, but I have absolutely no symptoms and my neurological tests were perfect.  I have a bran MRI tomorrow so they can look more closey at it as they don't really know what it is. My dr. said it' doesn't look like a typical melanoma – it has no blood vessels and it's very clean looking. He said he suspects melanoma cause what else could it be, but they're double checking everything since it's very unique.  It's deep in the left side of my brain and I'm a great candidate for gamma knife. I know this really sucks, but he's actually never seen anything like this before and has a group of people waiting for the MRI to review what's next.  He said I could be lucky to have this 1 lesion removed next week and not have it come back anytime soon and hopefully the ipi will take care of any microscopic cells.  Another good thing is that the cancer has not spread anywhere else, so even though it's probably in my brain, it's nowhere else and I'm a responder to ipi!

Getting the brain MRI is a little nervewracking as it looks more closely at things, but he's pretty confident there is just 1.  He said he believes it's not very agressive because it has no bleeding, vessel and I have no symptoms.  My hope is that this is a miracle and is benign or it's just 1 that comes out next week!

Lisa, Will had this happen several times.  They thought they saw a brain lesion on a CT scan and the MRI showed it was not anything of concern.  It is not uncommon and hopefully that will be the case with your situation also.  Thinking of you.

Well, you answered my question at the bottom of your last post. It is 2.2 cm. And does not seem to be near your pituitary. This is not small either, and I find it hard to believe this can grow from nothing on your last scan to this-so hoping/betting it is something else instead.

Lisa, this sounds like great news!  I'm on a clinical trial at UCSF with Yervoy as a potential next treatment.  I hope the brain MRI clears up the issue for you.  But today is a GOOD day for you with that kind of reduction!  God Bless.  Robert

Lisa, I am so glad you are a responder and am hoping and thinking the growth of the 2 nodes is just inflammation, and praying the brain met is nothing – if it is thank goodness Joshua can get you in so fast to have it removed!  Keep us posted

Hey Lisa.  I'm glad that most of your spots have shrunk down by 50% (so far)… I am sad to see that they found something in the Brain, but thankful that it's only 1 spot for them to worry about, and the Gamma Knife (for me at least) was quite easy, after everything else I had been thru the previous month to having it.  You are used to all the scans.

All I can say is I survived SO FAR with a giant ass ORANGE size melanoma in my head, hopefully this 2cm will be easily taken care of by Gamma Knife !

        Hi Lisa,

Great news about the Ipi, and I'm praying that the brain doesn't show anything on the MRI.   But if it does, it's great that you're such a good candidate for the Gamma Knife.

Congratulations on being an Ipi responder!

        take care,

Thanks everyone!  I'm super happy about the ipi results and keeping cautiously optimistic on the brain front.  My Dr. always called it a lesion – not a tumour, so this word alone is easier to think about. Anyway, I'm meeting with the brain board tomorrow morning to discuss my results. Nervous as hell, but I'm ready to know if this lesion is melanoma or something else.

      Hi Lisa,

hoping all the best for the MRI results! We all know how stressful the waiting is for those kind of results…

But sometimes it isn't what it seems. After my mel diagnosis, I had a total body scan and it showed a 2 x 3 tumor in my liver. De liver onc specialist at a university clinic in my country (Belgium) said all odds were against me and he suspected over 90% chance it was a spread of the melanoma.

He decided to do a special MRI on the surface of my liver to have a close look and to see if there were more spots which were yet too small to see on a PET/MRI. He found that the tumor was a benign ademona and could remove it completely. Those day's you indeed go from hell to heaven…

I hope you can experience the same!
