    Hi Guys,

i have got a awful sinus and windpipe issue at moment. I swim and it effects my sinuses . I have struggled for a week taking pain killers to try and help. Due to not helping I went to my GP she checked me over and sats was good apart blood pressed up slightly. She contacted the hospital to ask them what they would like her to do.  With it been a Friday she could not do blood check. They told her to give me antibiotics. If I feel worse call hospital.

Anyone had atibiotics when on treatment did it effect blood results or did they delay treatment.

    Thanks

    Scooby❤️

Hey Scooby, I am a surfer and have constant sinus issues.Every one of my scans over the years have shown something in sinuses. Maybe seaweed or barnacles…lol Been on several z pacs during treatment and blood counts were normal with no delay in treatments.

      Best, Paul

Hi Scooby – My sis is on nivo but has had  several courses of antibiotics in the past couple of years. It did its job with no affects to blood work and no interruption to immuno. Hope you feel better soon!!! Best wishes.

Hey Scooby.  Sorry you have to deal with those issues.  I hate pain.  I was diagnosed with chronic sinusitus since at least 2012 via head ct scans.  Fortunately in my case,it didn't really bother me.  I started Keytruda in September of 2016.  In February, 2017, I had to start taking Cipro for another infection.  My numbers stayed the same in my blood work and that infection cleared up as well as my chronic sinusitus.  There was no reason found to stop my treatment.I had no idea what I had been missing with that sinus blocked up.  Great to breathe clearly for a change.  Now here is the controversial part.  I am someone that believes we have a lot of gut bacteria that is very beneficial to us and broad-spectrum antibiotics don't really discriminate between the good ones and the bad ones.  So after I finished the antibiotics, I took a daily probiotic (I still take one) in an effort to counteract what I lost.  I am not aware of any science behind this but it made sense to me and my oncologist had no objections.  I tell him everything I take and ask him if he objects.  If he does, I stop taking it.  But some things I mentioned, like probiotics and vitamin D3 (I am also on Taf/mek so I need to avoid the sun), he has no problem with me taking.  I hope you get some relief soon.

      Cheers!

Thanks, Ed.  Reminded me of an older article about nude mice they couldn't give melanoma to and figured it was gut bacteria.  They singled out different ones, but it would make sense if diversity were key.  I'm not a great responder to Keytruda and I've had loads of antibiotics over the years so maybe I need to eat sh*t.

        Cheers!

        Hi Maggie,

Thank you for into, I take a tablet every day for the gut to help maintain the good bacteria. Plus other vitamins too, when started keydruda took the list of vitamins to the hospital to check if OK to continue when on treatment. I can say never got a straight answer yes or no so I have always taken my vitamins too.

        Thanks Maggie

Hi= my husband has been on antibiotics for years (preventative basis due to radiation damage in throat) while on a number of different treatments with no negative effects.  I don't think you need to worry about any interference.  He also takes probiotics to aid his gut health.
