Hi Ruth
I am not an expert nor indeed an expert in this journey as I was only diagnosed in Feb and Im still having all sorts or tests but I couldnt read and run.
Im from the UK but now live in Florida so its possible ( knowing the good old NHS ) that things are a little different but here is what I imagine will happen. Right now they have just looked at your mole but in order to be sure they need to biopsy it.
Im dont know on the best method of doing this and because I know the NHS doesnt allow for you to request anything different there is no point adding to that debate – but they will remove the mole for biopsy. It is very quick and very painless. Youll get a little injection with a fine needle . Ive had biopsies on my breasts and the fat made it so I didnt hardly feel the injection. Theyll take off the mole with a quick shave pop on a plaster and send you on your merry way.
Shouldnt bleed you will be fine to eat drive etc. If its on your bra line may want to consider the most comfy one you have but otherwise it honestly isnt too much to concern yourself with.
Ive also had one on my neck. That was a little more tender but no worse than a quick bee sting and its over. And again a plaster on it and good to go.
I hope that helps a little x wishing you luck and great news x

Hello
I was diagnosed with two stage 1 mel in Feb ( neck and toe ) and simply asked my oncologist about a PET scan. It seemed to bring him into focus and he agreed that my age ( 39 ) and the prescence of two mel at the same time in the neck and toe warranted a PET scan. I dont think he would have done it had I not asked the question.
Ive since had the PET and it lit up intensely in my neck and thyriod and chest area so I ve had more biopsies. Chances are its nothing but I will be grateful to know that is the case .
I agree to push. Fate led me to being diagnosed and now I feel if an idea ' pops up in my head ' i need to follow it through. Trust your gut – whats the worst that can happen – being told its clear ? T
Thats a blessing that is great to hear

Hi Evleye
Thanks so much for replying , this cancer stuff is all very odd in my opinion. the whole " we all have it in our bodies and something sets it off " has been in my mind ALOT lately.
I wanted to update my post as I am always mindful incase someone searches and comes across it and wonders ' so what did they say ' ?
So I am getting a biopsy. My dr said the PET scan was very hot in this area ( and semi warm in my aortic arch as well so I am guessing this will be tackled after ) and the Ultrasound showed something so thats what is happening.
When I asked about Melanoma passing to the thyroid he said it is possible, Melanoma and kidney cancer are the two that can show up as mets in the thyroid and to be honest once diagnosed with any stafe melanoma anything on a pet scan shouldnt be ignored. I appreciate his approach especially when I come across many stage one patients that end up having future problems.
Ill update once I have had the biopsy….
Thanks
