Sorry to hear about your diagnoses. I was recently diagnosed stage 3a, and had my first opdivo injection today. You will find a lot of helpful information as well as inspiration on this forum. I can’t speak to the treatment plan you have, but I can certainly understand the stress and anxiety it causes. People diagnosed with this horrible disease have a much much better outlook than some one as few as 10 years ago. My only advice would be watching what you read online. Statistics and outcomes for melanoma found online don’t take into account the newest and most effective treatments. Always be careful to pay attention to dates of when articles and studies were published. Wishing you the best

Sorry your having a rough go. I just had a sentinel lymph node biopsy a few weeks ago and had two positive nodes. No one has mentioned removing all lymph nodes yet. I have my scans scheduled for next week and will discuss treatment. They have already mentioned opdivo. Hope you get some relief and answers. Hang in there

I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I was recently diagnosed stage 3 in March. Just wanted you to know you came to the right place for support. I’m new here too and I’m thankful for this forum. We will make this journey together and get through it. I’m to start opdivo in a week after my scans. Keep us up to date.

Tracy, I’m in the exact same boat you are in. I went from 1b to 3a with microscopic involvement in a lymph node. You came to the right place for encouragement and knowledge. I just received my third round of Opdivo and my second set of scans is scheduled for my 6th treatment as well. The only side effect I’ve had was a little fatigue
As for being out in the sun, I’m an hvac technician in west Tennessee. At first I was mortified and considered changing careers. I talked to my dermatologist and he set me at ease. I bought a few wide sun hats to wear in the sun instead of my usual ball caps, purchased some SPF 50 long sleeve shirts and work pants. The cool thing is I learned the spf 50 long sleeve shirts and wide brim hats make you feel cooler than shorts and a T-shirt on hot days. When I’m not working in the sun all day I will wear shorts and T-shirt with a good spf 50 mineral sun screen. I like blue lizard best. Live your life. If you want to get on the boat and enjoy being outside, get a sun hat, put on your favorite swim suit and some good sunscreen and go enjoy the day!!!!!

                    Stan,
Thanks so much for your reply, I’m glad you are doing well and congratulations on being 10 yrs disease free. I hope we both stay that way. It sounds like we were in similar situations. I go back in a few weeks for my first scans. I am being treated at Vanderbilt by a great oncologist. Vanderbilt uses a team approach with multiple oncologist and is a research hospital. Its well worth the 3 hr drive for me.

Thanks again, I’ve been soaking up all of the information on your blog. A lot of people, myself included, owe you appreciation for putting that together. There is much enlightening and informative data to see. Have you any thoughts on the castle bioscience test? Given my 1a classification I felt sure there would be nothing in my lymph nodes. Is that lower classification still pertinent with my rise in staging?

Thanks for your reply, sounds like we are in a similar fight. I look forward to sharing our positive outcomes together. What made you stage 3c?, I’m thinking I may be stage 3a as of now. Just trying to learn as much as I can

Thank you for your reply Tim. I am being treated at Vanderbilt by an oncologist that specializes in hematology and melanoma. Are there oncologist who specialize in only melanoma? I hope you are doing well and tolerating your treatment ok.
