I am in full remission from stage IV but am still on oral medications.  My doctor plans on stopping the drugs in December.  The thought of taking nothing frightens me and I'm concerned about becoming depressed as I was when I was stage 2C and was NED after the first surgery.  The uncertainty about my future and concern about a recurrence brought on depression.  This may be what is causing your husband's depression.  I hope the medication helps him.  I think with time he will deal with his uncertainties better and become accustomed to his health status.  Best wishes to you both.

I had great results from ipi, but did not take nivo – I took and am still taking dabrafenib and tremetinib, but my melanoma was BRAF positive.  The problem with getting a second opinion is that it may be completely different than the first opinion, then what?  Who is right?  I am a bit jaded from dealing with so many doctors telling me different things;  I underwent radiation at one hospital then was told at the current hospital where I am treating that they never do radiation for melanoma. And it didn't work, the melanoma metastasized.  I am currently in complete remission from stage IV, so it can be done.  I would recommend you follow the doctor's recommendation as you can always try something different later if you don't respond.  Good luck to you.

I felt the same way at diagnosis 6 years ago.  I am currently in complete remission from stage IV and have been for over a year.  It gets easier with time.  Let yourself cry if you need to, but that need will begin to fade.  Keep  being optimistic because there are good treatments available and your chances are so much better than they would have been just a few years ago.  There are many success stories on the internet, reading them may help.  Wishing you the best.
