I actually do go every 3 months which really ends up being closer to 4 months because so hard to get into him. I go have have the regular checks just like I have had one only because of my family history. The doctor has photos, uggg, of my moles and of all parts of my body. (I try not to look up when he is looking at the slides..haha..because I don't know which part I might see:) ) Proactive is the key and unfortunately, I learned the hard way. I already take my 15 year old son and my 12 year old will start going maybe this next summer. I am teaching them, hopefully, that this is what they will do the rest of their lives.
One time, my derm was over this clinic for other doctors to come and see certain afflictions. My doctor was in charge of getting people to participate in it. Oh there were some patients that my heart went out too, and here I sat, nothing visible on me. But the reason he wanted me to be seen by these doctors was to say, hey don't forget me, who has few moles and actually look like I shouldn't be "worried about" when thinking of melanoma, just because I have only about 8 moles total, my chances are better than the normal person to have one because of history.
I also agree on the choice of doctors. I go to one at Vanderbilt. I don't mess with these local ones which as you say and I agree, see minor things. That is what my husband did. Some men can be hard headed and won't go past the city limits of our small area. Local was good enough for him:( so he thought.
Thanks for responding.

dian in spokane,
Thank you for the reply. Yes I remember Janner from years ago. I actually had thought she would respond, I don't know why but that was the familiar person that answered so many questions years ago. I will pass on the advice. Thank you again.
