Hi.  I was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma in 2020.  I did the 4 treatments of Opdivo/Yervoy and a year of monthly double dose of Opdivo till immunotherapy stopped working 2 weeks ago.  Now I’m on the Mektovi / Braftovi targeted therapy.  9 pills in morning 3 at night.  Very slight side effects so far – diahrea and spots before my eyes that went away in an hour.  I’m going to switch to 3 pills in morning 9 at night hoping side effects, if any, will be less overnight.  I learn so much from these threads about what to expect so thank you all for taking the time to keep us posted.  I wish us all a very positive outcume.

Thank you all for your comments.  These really do help me.  I had very good response to the Yervoy/Opdivo treatments and am now 8 months into the monthly double dose of Opdivo.  CatScans show I’m “basically” cancer free with very little side effects.  Right now I am more afraid of the Opdivo / vaccine combo than I am of the virus.  I checked out the links you posted where they recommend getting the vacine but they all have to say “but it’s too soon to know for sure”.   I really respect those of you who have had the vaccine and kept us posted.  Thank you again.  I hope to make up my mind soon.  I see my onc tomorrow.

Hi Anonymous, A lot of people are going to tell you “Don’t be scared!” but it really is ok to be scared. This is all new to you and we all have a fear of the unknown. I was diagnosed at stage 4 2 weeks ago and had my first immunotherapy session with Opdivo/Yervey combo this past Wed. So far, 4 days later and no side effects. I try to look at life as an adventure. This has taken me too from my day to day routine. I am getting an education in melanoma treatment. I am able to explain to my family and friends what I am going through. I don’t know if this forum allows us to talk about religion and I certainly don’t want to offend anyone. But I believe my faith is what makes me “Okay with it”.
My advice is to put your focus on your family and friends. Help them get through this by setting an example , but always be honest . . . if you are in pain or scared, let them know.. You are also going to hear a lot of “You’re in my thoughts and prayers.” People don’t usually know what to say to comfort you at a time like this but know that they are sincere in their concern for you. I hope you have a good support group. If not, this forum is a good start.and as for me, I’d recommend a church. One last thing you are going to hear a lot, I wish you the very best. Mark

Thank you JudiAU.  Could you keep me posted if your blood work changes.  Mine have been pretty steady throughout this process.  I’m 64 so I should be able to get the vaccine now without too much delay.  My onc recommends getting it halfway between infusions but I don’t think they are very lenient with the appointments.
