Amanda, I hope that by now you have heard back the results on your WLE and have received good news.

Our children are older, but when my husband received his diagnosis back in September, our world ground to a halt as we worried about if his time with the children was limited. Also, when my oldest was a newborn, I had a cancer scare. I was fortunate that it turned out to be OK, but I totally remember the terror wondering if I would be around for my child. So while everybody’s experience is unique, I can empathize with your feelings.

You are wondering how you can ever move on and enjoy every moment with your children – First and foremost, I hope that you are determined to be stage I because the prognosis is so good at that level. We were lucky that is where my husband was and even though he needs to be checked periodically, we have adjusted to that idea. You mention MD Anderson – I don’t know how far it is from you, but I think it is very smart and worthwhile to consult with them. It’s worth it to get the best treatment out there. Good luck! Please share when you get your results.

My husband was just diagnosed also, and as Ed says, get a copy of the pathology report of the biopsy.  Call your mom’s derm to find out what you need to do to get a copy (your mom probably has to fill out a form).  Once we got my husband’s, so many more details were available to help understand what we are starting with.  Once you have that you can post what it says here and people will help you understand. (Over the past two weeks I have seen that there are so many helpful thoughtful people on this forum) Good luck!

Tim, I’m new to these boards (husband just diagnosed) and I have been reading about your TIL journey.  I really hope that your quality of life/recovery had improved even more over the past couple weeks and I really really hope that you get (or got) great news from your scans.

I disappeared for a day there while trying to get something scheduled for my husband.  Happy to say we have a consult with a surgical oncologist at Sloan Kettering on Thursday.  The one he was assigned is a face and neck person who is does a bunch of stuff in addition to skin cancer.  I was hoping for someone more specific to Melanoma but we didn’t have a choice.  But when we get to the next step, hopefully the medical oncologiswill be more specialized.

Jackie, thank you for sharing your husband’s story.  How long ago was his surgery? This was helpful to help me to hear!

Thank you, Bill. You are 100% right that even having to wait through the weekend after a diagnosis is torture.  So if I read this correctly, it sounds like it was approximately 16 days from contacting MSK until surgery?   I know there are delays in surgeries at many hospitals because they are full of COVID patients – I’m thinking/hoping that since Sloane is a cancer hospital they won’t have that issue. I will call them tomorrow morning – do I call a specific doctors office or just the general phone number and they’ll transfer me?

Do you do anything locally? Will my husband need a physical with his primary physician before any surgeries? I’m trying to anticipate what I can to expedite the process.

I hope you are currently doing well.
