My thoughts are with both of you as you travel this road.  I know you have had a long, tough time.  Kevin has been so lucky to have you by his side this entire time.  He is a brave, brave soul and so are you.

      Best wishes,

My father had melanoma under his toe nail for many, many years — certanly more than 3 years —  and it was very very thick.  When his toe was removed, the doctors were amazed that the melanoma had not spread and no further treatment was needed, so don't give up hope!  He eventually got a second primary on the same foot, which was not so successfully treated.  This means you have to be vigilant to check for additional primaries, since this is an unusual melanoma for white people, but don't give up hope!  You can beat this!

      Hi there,

Haven't posted in a while, but your situation is somewhat similar to my father's.  I agree with others that you should get this taken care of earlier rather than later.  Just because one of the spots is in situ does not mean they all are.  Also, just because something is in situ now doesn't mean that it will be that way forever.

Best wishes to you and your father!

I love my kindle!  I prefer it to "real" books now.  I love the dictionary feature, the ability to change font size, bookmark pages etc.  In addition to Amazon, there are a number of places to legally get "free" books, mostly those out of copyright (published before 1923).  Some of those sites proofread their books better.  Lending books on both the nook and the kindle is very restricted, so is not practical for most people.  You can only lend a book once and only for 2 weeks etc (this is the info for the nook – I think it is similar for the kindle).

One nice feature about the kindle (I don't know about the nook) is that you can share books with other people on your account.  For example, my husband uses an iPad.  I can send the same books I have to his iPad and we can read them at the same time.  I believe you can send your books simultaneously to 5 or 6 devices, depending on the agreement Amazon has with the publisher.  But they have to be on your Amazon account.

If your books tend to have lots of diagrams or color images, you may be happier with the color nook.  I don't know anything about that.

      Happy Reading!

I also received this sad email.  It was for Sharyn that I stayed attached to this site after my father passed away.  I will miss her too!  She was an inspiration, a resource, an inspiration to so many people.  I know Sharyn's circle of friends and family will comfort each other in the spirit that she comforted all of us.

I have attached the obituary notice below. It is the same that King posted.

Peace, comfort and good wishes to all of you.

The scientists quoted in these articles do NOT recommend getting more sun.  The researchers recommend eating food with more vitamin D, such as tuna or other fish.  It is really important to look at all the information, because it is easy to take one sentence (about getting Vitamin D from sun, for example) out of context.  You need to go back to the original source material, not the secondary sources.

      Please be careful.

      Dear Ricky,

Please accept my condolences.  Your mother was a very special person and I know your loss is great.  You too are very special and kind to post here and I wish you the very best in coping with your sadness.
