Lisa, great news that there is no edema! I am a IV with brain & abdominal mets. I have had 2 gammas and have been on and off steroids for the past 2+ years. I hate them with a passion, but for me they were a necessary evil. Side effects include sleepless nights, anxiety, depression and a whole lot of anger. Thankfully, I wasn't on them for long periods of time and was tapered down. NOT taking them caused headaches for me. As of now, I have had no further recurrences or problems since my last craniotomy in October 2010. At that time it was to clean out necrotic tissue. Stay strong and positive! This is manageable! I was on a trial with an ipi combination for abdominal tumors in 2009, shortly after brain mets were found. So far, so good and I plan to keep it that way! Hopefully your dose will be low enough as to not cause severe problems. Let me know what happens!

Something prompted me to stop by, glad I did, it's been too long!
Stage IV since Jan 09, brain and abdominal mets. Abdominal surgery, IL-2, 2 Grammas and 3 craniotomies. NED since October of this year…woohoo! So it's PETs and MRI's every three months buts that's ok. I'm kicking ass and taking names and I have an amazing team of Dr's. I make sure they will NEVER forget me! I remind them often tha they have MY LIFE in their hands and I won't go quietly! I fight, I live and I love and laugh.
I accept whatever is in store for me but I'll NEVER quit! My Harley sits in our garage, patiently waiting for me this coming spring and I fully intend to be on it. We choose to live and we choose to fight; and I believe that as long as we do so, we're beating this ugly disease. There are angels among us and we are truly blessed to be in their company!!
NOT this girl and NOT today!

I second Janner's comment! Dr. Wolfram Samlowski at NCI. I traveled from Northern Utah to be treated by him and will do it again if need be! You won't find another Melanoma cowboy willing to work as hard as he will to save a life (in Nevada). I can't sing his praises loud enough!! Prior to going to NCI, Dr. Samlowski was hw=ead of the Melanoma program at Huntsman Cancer Institute in Utah. My Dr's in Utah wouldn't consider sending me to anyone other than Dr. Sam. SO worth checking…his nurse is Allison and would be more thann accomadating.
Best of luck,
Blueyes
