I am currently being BRAF-tested. If the results are positive, my onologist will put me on taflinar + mekinist. If I am negative, he mentioned an expanded access trial with yervoy + keytruda. I have not been able to find out how anything on this trial or the combo of these drugs. Any info would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

Hey Steve,
I've not heard of an ipilimumab (Yervoy) and Keytruda (previously named Pembrolizumab, the Merck anti-PD1 product) expanded access trial….though there may be one. There is one currently ongoing in which ipi (Yervoy) is combined with Nivolumab (the BMS anti-PD1 product). At any rate, researchers have generally reported that they believe both of the anti-PD1 products work very similarly and equally well. Keytruda is currently FDA approved for melanoma patients who have progressed on ipi and, if BRAF postive, on BRAF inhibitors as well. The combination of Nivo and ipi is showing very good results…side effects are more than when taking either ipi or nivo alone, but docs are learning how to manage them better and have flipped the dosages from some of the earlier trials…now giving a smaller dose of ipi and a larger dose of nivo than what had been given in intial studies.
Perhaps some generally info will help you…

Here is what a researcher reports on various combinations with ipi: http://chaoticallypreciselifeloveandmelanoma.blogspot.com/2014/09/weber-presentation-on-present-ipi.html
A report on an early ipi/nivo combo: http://chaoticallypreciselifeloveandmelanoma.blogspot.com/2013/06/for-melanoma-ipi-and-nivolumab-bms-anti.html
And finally, some general info about what being BRAF positive means, BRAF drugs, and how to make them work better when combined with MEK: http://chaoticallypreciselifeloveandmelanoma.blogspot.com/2014/02/braf-inhibitors-for-melanoma-dabrafenib.html
Hope that helps. Wishing you my best. Celeste

Hi Steve 2142, you could also go and look at (Tim-MRF) and his posts. Go back to 4/20/2014 and 5/20 2014 where he talked about expanded access with Merck's Pd-1 drug and Bristol Myer Squibb's PD-1. I would also recommend the Pd-1 drugs if you can get access!!!! Best of luck!!!! Ed
