today we found out tha the nodules were there from the first ct scan and they are exactly the same as before.none can say that they are melanoma or not.is it posible with just a microscopic met at tha sln and without othel lumpnode positivi at the full axillary disection to have a met at lungs?the lung specialist told us that those could be there for years and to be asymptomatic for ever, they just need observation from time to time.the thing  that worrys me is that they are ground glass…..so much anxiety evere time with scans….its horrrible..

I've had scans for years and my lungs were clear.  Last Dec 2 nodules showed up. They went back in my scans and retrospectively could see when they were a speck and how they grew. It had been over a year.  Knowing at this point they weren't aggressive and since they were small: 1 was 5mm and the other 8mm we took the watch and wait method.  Next scan the 5 mm was still 5 and the other had grown to 9.  Next scan the 5 was still 5 and the 9 was now 7mm.  As we age we also get all kinds of lung junk. For now as of the last scan nothing has changed in the lungs.  Each persons history is different. My Dr did not want to do the VATS because he felt that my immune system has been doing the fighting for me and didn't want to compromise it with this surgery unless necessary.  My nodules did not have the glass charactericstics however which could make a difference.

Keep us up to date with your mom.

Sorry to hear about all the anxiety – we all know how that goes!  I have my next scans August 5th and I'm already feeling the anxiety 🙂  ok maybe it never really goes away…

As far as the spots there are really only 2 things you can do – a watch and wait or VATS (if they are easy enough to get to).

In Jan I had 12 + spots show up on my lungs.  The largest being around 4mm.  My oncologist didn't want to watch and wait so I saw a throacic surgeon.  Who I might add at my first apointment stated – "I highly doubt it's melanoma'…  but I went thru with the VATs.  They removed 2 wedges of my left lung – 1 nodule around 2mm and 1 around 4mm..  Both came back positive for Melanoma.  I haven't done any treatments to date and my last scans in April showed no evidence of growth and some spots were gone and june showed no evidence of disease!  So it's hard to say if the other spots where anything at all…

So hang in there.  It could very well be the spots are nothing – especially since they are so small.  As long as they are keeping a close eye on them if they grow to biopsy them…

              Thoughts and prayers with you!

I was not aware that she had a scan already that was being used as a baseline.

That they have not changed from the first scan is good news.

                      Glad to hear it.

Thanks for letting the board know.
