Keri made a strong recovery from her intussusception surgery 9 weeks ago. We were excited to be going into the BMS trial. Merck turned us down and BMS wanted 8 weeks from the surgery and WBR. The day to start the trail Keri had acute blocking in her left leg that landed us back in Moffit for surgery. We meet with several doctors and they were torn on weather to do anything or not due to breaking up clots can cause sever hemorrhage when you have cancer. Every doctor came in one by one and stated their thoughts. We told each that we are going to treat what we can today and win.

Once Keri recovers from her surgery she had Friday night we are going with a chemotherapy. Our oncologist said lets take it one day at a time. She knows us now to well and we all laughed when our response was we will be back soon for her first treatment. We feel that a treatment is better than no treatment at all. No more waiting we are going for the Hail Mary and are going to get the touchdown. This might not be for everyone but dont let the carrots blind you. Melanoma is no longer playing fair so we are going to start firing back daily with no waiting. Good luck to everyone and remember their are no wrong decisions when fighting melanoma.

Drat! I can't believe that Keri again got SO close to a clinical trial only to have it yanked away from her at the last minute! I'm so sorry, Brian. Truly.
I'm not a doctor, but I tend to agree with you and Keri– 9 weeks of no treatment while waiting for a clinical trial is enough. And remember, even if Keri did get into a clinical trial, there is no guarantee that she get into a treatment arm or even that she would be a responder, right? So I think you are wise to go ahead and try the very best chemo or biochemo you can get before it is too late. Chemo has, indeed, worked quite well for some people.
You are absolutely correct– you can only make the best decision you can with the information you have and never second-guess yourself. My thoughts and my prayers will be with you both.

Well we are on the road to recovery on the deep vein thrombosis. Physical Therapy started today but was very tuff on her leg. 10+ pain but the surgeon said it will take 10 to 14 days for the swelling to go away. We might be going home Tuesday with Hospice Care and a part time nurse until she can make it around the house again. She is a little uneasy about going home without being able to get out of bed and be mobile but i seem to agree with the PT that being at home will do her good as she recovers. She will have to be on blood thinners now to help with not clotting anymore. We will just have to watch for signs if any of her tumors start to hemorrhage. Looking at 4 weeks and meeting back with Dr. K for a chemo plan of attack.
