    I'm scheduled for an ultra sound of the abdomen to check the remaining lymph nodes in my groin following the lymph node biopsy. I just realized that radiology didn't give me any specific instructions for prior to the test. Has anyone had this and been restricted from eating and drinking before the ultra sound? I'm also having a leg ultra sound same day. I'll probably have to contact the hospital and ask for the on call radiologist. Everything has been crazy at the hospital clnics due to the holidays.

      Hi,

      I was called back in Feb after a CT scan a week earlier for ultrasound groin to check nodes  and also had an ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration a few months before. In both cases no special instructions.

      I think that abdomen / pregnancy scans sometimes have special conditions re drinking so that the bladder is full and clearly defined but there is no problem for you here if they are really checking the groin and doing an ultrasound of the leg too. Very occasionally this is used to rule out DVT causing swelling rather than lymphoedema. Think you had a swelling of fluid on your incision and the ultrasound might allow them to drain under guidance/ visualize what is going on.

      I would turn up at the appointment time and do as requested- I'm sure there will be no problems.

      Thanks Deb for the information. The hospital did call with app't time and gave me a direct phone number to call so I can check before I leave the house (hospital 2-2/12 hours away from my house).
