The waiting game…..

I had my biopsy last Wednesday, my dermatologist told me I should have results by Monday (yesterday) and assured me I would have them before the holiday (Thursday). Still no results, and now I am freaking out thinking that the reason for the delay is because it is not going to be good……I emailed this morning and received a response from the nurse that they were still in process. Can someone please give me some insight, is the delay a bad thing? It's Kaiser, not sure if that makes a difference. My anxiety is so bad and this process has taken so much time, it's been 3 1/2 weeks since my initial appointment, and that was only because I was lucky enough to grab an appointment someone else canceled.

Any thoughts or insight is appreciated……

Amount of time has no bearing on whether results will be good or bad, it all has to do with how busy the lab is. The wait sucks, hang in there, keeping positive thoughts for you.

Thank you so much for your response. I'm perturbed that my doctor assured me I would have them by yesterday and then didn't even bother to check in with me when they didn't come in. Of course she is gone the rest of the week, so who knows what will happen if they come in while she is out.

You responded to another post I had about a general pathologist versus a dermatopathologist and Kaiser. How long did it take for your to receive your results? Have you had good luck with Kaiser and melanoma specialists? Will they refer to universities outside of the system if needed?

              Thanks again for your help….

My Kaiser experience was less than ok… I quickly switch from Kaiser to Blue Shield (thankfully was during this time of year that I could make that switch) in order to be seen at UCSF for melanoma specialists. It took 2 weeks for my pathology to come back, they sent to UCSF for a second opinion at the time.

I have had wonderful treatment with Kaiser (Maryland).  When my melanona reared it's ugly head ten years after the initial diagnosis, there was no immunotherapy available for my stage.  My oncologist sent me to Johns Hopkins for a clinical trial.  Kaiser and JH coordinated everything.  I have had nothing but good experiences with Kaiser – they haven't cut any corners and continue to monitor me every three months while things are stable.  If I need anything, she is always eager to help.  Sorry you are having to wait for results.  We all have the waiting game.  Good luck
