My husband (Stage IV) has been on the taf/mek combo for a couple months. We just got scans yesterday and while the tumors shrunk dramatically, two "new" small tumors showed up on this scan in addition to one small one on hip and arm. Has anyone had a "mixed" response on the combo? Our onc thinks maybe these new tumors showed up in the 2.5 weeks after the first scan and before we started the combo. Thanks!

I had mixed response the entire 8 months I was on it…..seemed like one or two were always hanging on.

Yes I had a much worse mixed response on the combo. Three tumors might have shrunk by a small amount. All but two of my other couple dozen tumors stayed the same. Two tumors grew by a large amount. Also two new tumors showed up in the area where the other tumors grew.
However I might be a bad example because before that on zelboraf everything grew. After zel I did yervoy then the taf mek combo.
After the combo I got on pd1.
It is quite possible your doc is right that the new tumors showed up in those couple weeks and staying on the combo for one more scan is a good thing since lots of tumors shrank dramatically. That's also what I think probably happened. You rarely get such good results with braf only to have others show up so yeah I would say it was those couple weeks.

Jen,
First, sorry you folks are dealing with this. From what I've read here this "mixed" response to various drug treatments seems common. My stage IV tumors first responded to Zelboraf and upon progression, I was switched to the TAK/MEK combo where I saw two brand new sub-Q tumors develop while only keeping others mostly stable. We took this as a sign of progression and discontinued the combo. I've since done my 4 rounds of Yervoy and one legacy tumor shrunk signifigantly while those two that developed during TAF/MEK have stubbornly stayed the same or actually grown. Waiting for my next scans to see whats happening inside. It's an elusive target and you just need to stay positive.

My husband had mixed as well. He was only on it for i think 4 weeks. They took him off it and started yearvoy. After 3 rounds of that they started him on keytruda and taf pill.i dont know if its the yearvoy or taf. I hope yearvoy but at least some seem to be getting, smaller. Will see after blood work. -
