I had my first round of scans and not totally what I was hoping for. The good part is there is no signs of mets in brain or organs. The scan did show an area of concern very close to the original surgery area on my back that was done in Oct 2016. The doctor is thinking possible melanoma in transit. She is sending me for sonogram and hoping to do an aspiration. I am currently at stage 3A would this up my staging if it is melanoma? Would I have other options for treatment besides Yervoy at the 10mg dose? Oh, also I am BRAF positive. Hoping to get an appt for the sono soon….Very Nervous!!!

How could it be intransit if it is located at the original site?  How will ultrasound figure this out? I think you need to go to a place of melanoma excellence.   Check here:  http://melanomainternational.org/web-resources/cancer-centers/#.WISzz1UrKM8

She stated that it is showing close to the original site, not on it, so yes it could be an intransit. MD is a very highly reputable place for some top melanoma specialists, so she is at the right place. Using ultrasound will help find this spot and then a fine needle will be used to extract cells from it and then will be tested for melanoma. That's how the final diagnosis will be determined.

Missy, yes if it tests positive for mel it will change your stage, but it's really great your scan didn't show anything more serious on the inside. I believe if it is mel then it would change your stage to either 3B or 3C, but you can ask your doc about that. If the stage goes to 3C and your doc can call you "stage 3C unresectable" then you'd have the whole list of immunotherapy drugs open to you just as they are to stage 4… that's how I got on Ipi/Nivo after more mel was found in a lymph node in Sept after already doing Yervoy (Ipi) 10mg.

Hi my wife was stage 3C more than four years ago with a very agressive cancer in pregnancy, had a few distant lymph node metastasis since but has had 5 clear scans since due to doing dentric cell vaccines with low dose nivo and ipi to brak down the supressor cells. She got it in Germany. Here is some reseach from a leading govt funded research organisation in NZ where we are from. This is not the clinic where she gets treated. We still have to go 3x a year for the next two years.

Our insurance company has paid for this therapy for several years. I have a supporting evidence letter that we used to get it funded and the clinic in Germany provided losts of clinical trial information. They have a 100% sucess rate for patients who show up fully resected and melanoma is the best cancer to have with their therapy. I have other friends who have not had as much sucess will vaccines but melanoma is the sweet spot.

                Happy to answer questions.
