      My husband and I will be moving to the Greenville/Spartanburg, SC area in the next few weeks and I am in urgent need of recommendations for hospitals and specific doctors names that we can transfer my husbands case to.   It seems like Gibbs Cancer Center may be our best bet as they are a comprehensive center and are affiliated with MD Anderson, but I'm not finding a melanoma specialist there.

      Charlotte, NC would be a possibility as well.

          Hi, My husband's doctor's are in Charlotte, NC at Levine Cancer Institute.  Dr. Asim Amin in a medical oncologist sjpecializing in melanoma.  He is wonderful.  Dr. Richard White is a surgical oncologist specializing in melanoma.  He is also wonderful.  They work closely together and are in touch with doctor's around the country regarding clinical trials.  I highly recommend them.  Wishing you both the best.

              Hi Melissa,

              Thank you for the recommendation – we will definitely consider Dr. Amin.   Even though Levine is an hour and a half from where we are moving to, my husband's daughter actually lives in Charlotte and is only 2 miles from this facility.   

              If anyone else knows anyone in the Greenville/Spartanburg area please let me know.

                I too am a patient of Dr. Amin's and I live in Asheville. It is well worth the drive to see this man and I've been very pleased with the whole Carolina's Health System.

                    Did you ever fin a specialist in Greenville? We are in Greenville and my husband was diagnosed with mm in May (stage 3A).  We go to GHS' Cancer Center of the Carolinas.  Surgical oncologist is Dr. Trocha (love him!). He has an extensive melanoma background and actually studied under the man who "invented" sentinel lymph node mapping. Our oncologist is Dr. O'Rourke, we've only met him once, as we are just now recoverin from surgery and deciding if treatment is right for us.

                    I do know that the Gibbs Cancer Center is heavily advertised, however from my research GHS' program was far superior (much larger, more research, more trials, teaching hospital, etc.). Our experience with our cancer center has been great, the doctors are part of the Multidiciplinary Program where they cross-communicate with surgeon, onc, radiology, path, etc and look at your case as a whole to develop a unified plan. A morning appointment yields meetings with multiple experts rather than many days of seperate appointments.  I'm curious as to how your experience in Clt is going. We are getting a second opinion prior to deciding on treatment, and planned to go to Duke or Emory, however Clt may be a good option.
